Ktm 690 enduro help needed pls

    Hi all

    i am currently traveling south america on a KTM 690 Enduro and have a problem..

    engine noise ticking very rapidly turned into a full melt down from the bike

    i am some what mechanically inclined so i set to work.. to try to see what the hell had happened..

    I was quite sure that this was a valve issue. took off the head to reveal a super f**ked Valve Rocker Bearing that has stripped itÂ’s self and seized.. also damaging the Valve Cams too..

    As i can tell there dos not appear to be any other damage done to any other parts..

    my questions for anyone who can help is would this have done any other damage to the motor... i.e. the piston, cylinder etc... this is not an easy thing too tear down to check..

    and other than ordering a new Rocker Arm and Valve Cam what else does anybody recomend i should replace with these..

    If it were me I would do as you say and change oil & filter to be on the safe side. Doesn't look like enough heat or enough metal removed to worry about anything else. Maybe someone else can point out something I missed though. Good luck!

    This shouldn't affected the valve timing so the pistons and valves themselves should be fine. If you are worried about it you can do a compression test.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    Since you have it in pieces already you should check the timing chain tension rail and chain guide for excess wear.<o:p></o:p>
    Don't forget you will need to redo the valve clearances<o:p></o:p>

    Hi, could you specify please - which oil you have used in your 690 and how much you have rode with it?

    Chances of other damage is remote - Don't fret too much about that.

    Guessing this is an 08?

    If this is the bike I think it is.... a lot! 100,000 km or thereabouts?

    As I wrote by email to our friend in common I also think that new rockers and cam should solve the problem.

    Since they appear to wear out quicker than the rest of the engine on many 690s I'd start changing them out as preventative maintenance every 20-30k miles depending on how hard and often you rev the engine.
