I spoke with him Last Tuesday. He is still making racks and mine should be enroute this week.

Bought a new case saver from him this week too. Sounds like he's branching out into the new Husky 701 accoutrements as well.

Does anyone have a different (better) way of contacting him other than his website?

Anyone using the BC/Scout 25? I'm interested in that set up and would like to know if you can get a three days camping trip worth of gear in them with a smaller tail bag. Somewhat minimalist with ultralight gear. They would be attached the RR racks. Would this setup be much wider than the R80?

As far as the wolfman racks vs the TT racks..... I am running the wolfman racks now, also from an awesome deal... although it only has one "leg" support, it is much slimmer designed. It does not protrude off of the bike like the TT racks as well as Happy Trails do( i got rid of the happy trails racks and hard boxes for the wolfman racks with soft bags). I love the setup I have now. The soft bags are waterproof, they hold enough to keep you comfy, and they cinch down nice and tight to the racks. If you are lucky enough to find a set for the 690 and enjoy a lighter and narrower profile... wolfman is the way to go! As far as strength... they held up well during a high speed getthehelloff in Mexico last year!!

You mean one of these? I picked one up from him the other day too (sales@shiftmanufacturing.com)

He's around, send him an email. I believe he's got a day job too.

EDIT: He's got a website up and working at www.shiftmanufacturing.com and even has his KTM 690 Racks listed for sale on there now.

Anyone have any quick release top box setups? I have a pelican case with my photography gear that i would like to be able to mount as a top box but easily removable at night. Anyone running anything similar?

Then i would like to have side racks for my soft Magadan panniers

    Thanks guys!

I used to run Pelikan cases on my 950. You might look at the mounting blocks available from Mosko Moto they use for side cases. It's the closest thing to what I always envisioned as an ideal solution.

Hey everyone, im looking for a new topcase for my 690. Currently i have a zega pro aluminum topcase with the quick release, buts its HUGE! 35L way more than my needs. So just wondering what would be a good option for a decient topcase around the 15-20L mark that either has a quick release or can be adapted to one? BTW after the new case gets installed the Zega pro will have to go so it will be up for sale if anyones interested lol.

    In South Africa, a company that supplies us makes a very practical, 'self-supporting' luggage rack for the KTM 690's, and here are some pics of it;

They do these racks in MILD steel (easier to repair when venturing out of South Africa, since TIG/MIG welding expertise is scarce in the rest of Africa), and we MOSTLY sell a very nice stainless-steel version.

They are particularly well thought out, and retail for around R3200 (South African Rands), which equates APPROXIMATELY to U$D 215.

I like the look of it but I really don't like that the attachment is the pillion foot pegs.

Well, the 690 has no real subframe whatsoever, so the 'tail' of the bike really is a fuel tank and tank bolts...
So the design of the T2G rack is so that it 'reaches' forward, using a strong part of the bike to support the rack, and the best place for that is brackets that fit under the pillion pegs.
    Cheers

The best place would be brackets that replace the pillion pegs...

I have a 690 so know the tank and it's mountings. As above, a far better place IMO is the mounting point by the swing arm... but each to their own.

all good, Fluff; could you show me the preferred mounting position, so I can better picture it?
    thanks!

The simple rear rack I bought off Ebay a few years ago disintegrated on my last ride. All four bolt holes broke. I did get about 8000 miles on the rack and only paid ~$100. So I'm not real pissed.

I just carry a Rotopax and a tail bag for odds and ends on the rack.

    Any recommendations on a replacement?

I don't see the one I bought on Ebay anymore. Looks like SW Motech makes some

I have the SW Motech rack and it's definitely a solid rack. In fact I thought it was a bit over-kill so I trimmed it up a bit.
    http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/ktm-690-luggage-rack-thread.365169/page-126#post-26789472

I even added another hole closer to the gas cap to shift the position the Rotopax closer to the mounting points to decrease the over-hang and put less stress on the tank inserts.
Over all I like the rack, but if I was going to order one from SW Motech I might consider the smaller aluminum version:

Perun Moto also makes a rack that quite a few people like:
