    Lol.

Your KLR´s "battery" is(6gallon) 219 kwh of energy.(33% to the rear wheel)

My KTM holds 560 kwh. (33% to the rear wheel)...60%+ out to nothing...
My Nissan Leaf has a 24 kwh battery(0.65 gal fuel). It will go 140km....with 560 kwh my leaf would go 4000km.
I fucking love both of them. When batteries will hold their own, fossils will die. AAAAnd we will get boat loads of torque in our zippy KTMs.

Gasoline is incredible dense in energy pr. kg. Nothing really compares. We will get there.

If ever the KTM 790 will be mine. It will be the last fossil motorcycle for me(i will keep it at least 10-12 years).

But man it looks great blacked out.

I wish it could be ordered that way. No decals. All Matte black.

My point exactly, energy density is a bitch. I'd bet your leaf would get better fuel economy with a modern engine that my KLR does, actually. Aero on motorcycles is hilariously bad. Buuut, you can carry ~ 40% the energy for the same range due to efficiency, so that's a start. I think energy density will have to triple before it makes sense for bikes that are meant to be ridden for hours on end.

When is the 790 adventure supposed to be available in the US?

That poor elephant was getting ignored. I’m expecting the pre-game quarterbacking will turn into what tires and oil are best for the 790 soon.

In the meantime I've been browsing through alternatives if the price tag on 790 would go above my budget (which actually I don't think it will, considering we already know the 790 Duke price and that 1290 Duke costs as much as 1290 Adv S).

I've only yesterday discovered that the old LC4 had 300+ mm suspension travel. And weigh around 160kg. And cost peanuts. Sounds almost too good to be true - at least that's what the Motorcycle specs site gives for them. That was enough to make me consider splitting the budget and getting two bikes isntead.

Oh yes, those still exist. Here's mine two weeks ago.
There is still no direct replacement on the market.

Attach a couple of wheels to this and you're halfway there :lol3

I guess the best match is a 690 with more fuel capacity, a fairing and some suspension tuning.

As a former LC4 owner all I can do is laugh at how true that is

The 400cc lc4 did not shake paint. It just purred along like a kitten.

So are we banking on the production "R" having a high fender?
    That would be cool.

Glad to be back online since my ban that started from me posting my KTM 950 riding pics in a jo mamma thread... Sheesh, and they claim it's not for the faint of heart down there?

Great question here but I don't know how much jostling about the circuits on this new technology can handle... yet? I'll prefer to wait until this new technology is battle tested over years of abuse and salty air. But yes, I realize, positively, this IS the future.

But speaking about TODAY... as I've said before... If KTM made an OBSURDLY ultralight weight twin at near 100 hp bike... using loads of titanium or other lighter/ stronger materials... in the headstalk, triples, frame, engine cases and gear components, swing arm, brake components and wheel components... Would I pay $23K?

    Yes...

If they threw in a set of compatible sumo wheels for $2k more it would be like having two perfect bikes for $12.5K (jap prices).

    HELL YES!!!

    Couldn't agree more!!!

    OH YES!!!

That blacked out test bike reminds me of when I first saw Colorado inmate Geek's bike when he put matte Safari tanks on and matted out his tricked out Adventure. It just freezes you. Less is more when it comes to KTM graphics which they get heavy handed with.

I think promoting the bike by showcasing people racing it in a rally says a lot.
I also think it would be a fun prize to win!

And I take from the video that there is going to be a R version and an ordinary version.

The takeout on the version of the engine fitted to the Duke is that it has poor fueling at low revs, hopefully will be sorted for the adventure

Hopefully so, wouldn't bet on it though as KTM is famous for inbreeding known issues throughout an engine or model range. If it doesn't get sorted by KTM, suspect it will get sorted by one of our favorite Southern California vendors.
