KTM 990 2007 ABS fault - ADVICE???

    Hey fellow orange lovers - listen here :ear
    I have around 48 000kms and last season ABS started to turn off randomly - not that I mind very much, but it is a little surprising on wet surfaces when you expect electronics to help you but they have decided to take a break.
    Did a big service at KTM Riga this winter and after they checked faults, they had a couple about ABS, after clearing them ABS worked for about 12 minutes, and now it has not worked at all. Went back to KTM Riga and had the fault readout done, this time only one fault:
    Trouble code Fault text COMMENT
    COMMENT 5014 Valve*relay*(fail*safe) Malfunction*MIL*ON*fault*present

    So it is not the sensors but the module.
    Could not find any info online and even here.
    KTM does not repair the ABS modules - you have to buy a new one - around eur 800,- Too much for me, rather not have the ABS at all.
    Have heard of guys repairing ABS modules for cars, so my guess is to take it to them.

    Anyway - has anyone dealt with this issue???

    You may have already done this.
    Check your ABS sensor cables. I routed my front sensor cable incorrectly causing wear on the cable. The ABS acted strangely as the wires were wearing through. Finally the speedometer stopped reporting. At the end of the day I spliced the cable back together, routed it properly and ABS problem was solved. Wear on either cable, or poor connections may cause ABS faults.

    In addition, a slightly loose battery connection will cause an ABS fault well before it gets loose enough to shut down the bike. Everything is fine at startup, then after riding for a while and going over some bumps, the ABS would fault. This has happened to me several times and now serves as a reminder that I need to tighten up the battery connection.

    Hi!
    I have inspected the sensor wiring and there is no visible damage. Also at the KTM mechanic said that this should be a module failure.

    Speedo has not had a problem all along, so that also kinda tells me it is not the wiring problem, because I remember reading about front ABS sensor being connected to speedo.

    Since the problem has surfaced I have removed and replaced battery more than once, since it was out during winter and then in for time in KTM service and then out again since winter was long and now it is in again.
    One thing from this however might be taken, that maybe there is somewhere another loose connection on the way to the ABS module?? Can this be causing a fault readout as mentioned above?

    I hoped someone would have dealt with this so that I do not just blindly disassemble the module.

    I've torn the ABS off of both '07 Adventures I have.
    IMHO a much better braking system without it.
    Easy to do, lighter weight and less electrical draw.

    I do have two complete abs systems laying around.
    I could get you the braking module, which cost close to $2,000 US.
    Maybe prepay the shipping, would work for me.

    I have also pulled my ABS off of my '07 Adventure for the same reasons.

    Muuuch better braking now, especially front brake "feel" and the ability for ME to modulate it much better than the ABS ever could in the dirt.

    But my old module is just sitting in the Garage, waiting for a buyer :wink:
    (and all other parts and wire harness, except the 2 damaged sensor cables)

    You are a saint:) Before using your kind heart I will try to solve the problem by repairs. Now I am riding without ABS and have no issue with that so it is not urgent.
    Someone said that loose battery connection can be the issues. Could it be that my battery is just not powerful enough because for a couple of years I am using less powerful batteries, however I did not have any issues before, even with the less powerful batteries.
    Any electrician advices??
