Thanks for the info on the bigger tanks..The costs associated wont be worth it so I will stay stock and if needed carry extra fuel. I spent all day yesterday riding and realized that if I am not chasing KTM Mike through non-stop twisty mountains my mileage increases alot. lol:D. I need to ride highway to get to the good stuff and that distance to empty is not too bad. I did not get to test the G2 because got the wrong one...bought it from motorcycle superstore..when I realized I called G2 tech to verify and he agreed it was wrong and he said email him my info and he will send right one ..was sent hours later..great customer support! Hopefully comes today since I am taking another riding day off of work tomorrow due to nice weather. :D

So I wanted to test out the G2 in the mountains but did not want to deal with traffic so put the bike on the ferry ...........

Hey! You still have the Pirelli up front!
Would you wear that thing out so you can tell me what the front 2CT is like?

I vote for the SMR over the beautiful Hyper in the looks department.
    Maybe even with the Dorso?

Can't find a parts diagram, what's behind this cover (blue tape applied prior to photo since I have no clue how to use Photoshop) - thermostat, water pump, ?

I've got a little coolant weeping along the bottom edge, is it likely to be just a bad gasket? Bike's @ 4000 miles and under warranty but if all I need is to replace the gasket, I'd rather order one up and replace it at home - dealer is a couple hours away and I doubt they'd do it while I waited.

Along the same lines, where's the best source for a service manual for the 990? prefer hard copy rather than CD...

    Thanks,

    Craig

Hey Taz, the screen you got there, is it for the 990 or the 690 and adapted?

And the crashbars, where they expensive?

    Hi Craig,
Under the blue tape is your water pump.
Your thermostat is in the upper right hand corner of the picture,
black, T-shaped, you can see 2 of the 3 hoses going to it in the picture.

Check the torque on the water pump bolts FIRST. . . 10NM.
If they are right, sounds like the water pump gasket needs replacing . . . it's easy.

You can buy the CD and print it out. See post #299 below for best place to order anything KTM.
I don't think they sell it any other way:dunno

    Hi Al,
I got way fewer miles out of the Stock rear!
I'm currently running Michelin Regular Pilot Powers front and rear.
Of course I'm riding on the sides of tires all the time here in the mountains,
so I was thinking about a front tire with even better grip on the sides.

I called the Michelin 800 number to see if the Pilot Power 2CT would
do anything for me because I wasn't clear on whether the 2CT's were:

    A. the same on the sides and harder in the middle, OR
    B. the same in the middle and softer on the sides:dunno.

The Tech guy told me that "B" is true.
BUT he also told me that many customers complain about a
"falling into the curves" sensation with the 2CT,
but not with the regular Pilot Power.

I am now considering the softer Michelin Power Pure for the front only,
and keeping the Regular Pilot Power on the rear.
I have a few more Regular Pilot Power fronts in stock that I have to use up first.
I'm getting backed up with too many tires downstairs.

If you decide to go to Regular Pilot Powers though , be aware that the
rear tire has a 6mm shorter radius than the stock Pirelli,
and you'll want to lower your yokes to compensate
    (easy job with torque wrench).

Here is the source for the cheapest KTM parts,

EVEN CHEAPER THAN LISTED ANYWHERE I HAVE FOUND ON LINE
    (even their own website ! ! ! ! !)
    IF
    you follow these simple directions:

    1. THE NEXT TIME YOU NEED PARTS, call Tracey's in Pennsylvania at 1 800 860 0686.

    2. Speak only to the parts manager Steve Dumek the first time.

    3. Tell him KTM Mike sent you.

    4. He will set up an account for you.

    5. Any time you call there after that, no matter who answers the phone,
STATE YOUR PHONE NUMBER FIRST! (They changed this recently . . . they go by your Last Name now, and YOUR DISCOUNT will be preset into their computer)

    6. You MUST have all your part numbers ready to read to them. Do not make them look up any parts numbers for you.
Look the numbers up in your own parts book, or look up the numbers on a website or someplace,
and write them down in a list so you can rattle them off quickly and don't waste their time.

    7. Do not order anything that you are not 100% sure you want, because
they have a stiff return policy in exchange for LOWER PRICES.

    8. Print this out so you don't forget & screw it up.

    9. This only works by phone as far as I know. I assume that if you order online, you will get the online price which is higher. (This part has also changed recently. Now, once Steve has programmed YOUR discount rate into his computer, you can order online for the same lowest price).

(There are some places like www.partspitstop.com
that list prices lower than are LISTED on Tracey's www.worldofcycles.com ,
but the price that Tracey's will CHARGE you is lower than BOTH if you always follow the above)
