Tracks good I can lead a group too if needed - or ride sweep and gets the bits and pieces off the trail

All ya really need to know is: Bring Whiskey.
Man, I coulda used a winch yesterday, pre-riding the Southern end of our Cascades Route.
I was riding on a trail of what was left over from a 150+yo wagon road ....a section that I WON'T lead any of you on....
It took me 3+ hours to get outta what took me 20 minutes to get into.
Dog, I love that EXP autoclutch; but I'm betting my hot clutch plates hate me now....
Whadja do now, Ernie...??? :huh
....and the only reason I would be skeptical about letting a lowly 690 tag along with the big boys is that....well....um....you'd likely kick our asses on that bike

Oh, just a little get off, which took out my radiator.
I've been down too many times on that damn ktm.
It's OK. You KNOW that I understand........
I think KaTyM LIKES the abuse.
Mine seems to love me more, the worse I mistreat her.
All she seems to want in return are new shoes several times a year,
and good quality juice to lubricate her soul.
Sacramento area riders headed up? Hoping to get the time off and would like to join a group for some fun.
I've been talking to the fine folks at Giant Loop, and they're hooking me up with some good dirt to ride on our way up. Should be awesome.
Really? Im head north almost a week befor the really starting in the bay area going to be camping along the way any chance of getting some of the tracks???
Paper maps, had to buy 'em...
For you Bay area/NorCal guys looking for a route up to Bend, check out the Pacific Crest Quest. I have ridden this from Yosemite to the Oregon border and it is a good, big bike friendly ride. Lots of dirt North of Truckee. Good 950 roads with some pavement that is mostly paved forest service type stuff.
Check it out here;
Last time we rode it, we went from Truckee to well above Lassen NP in one day (you have to slab on Hwy 89 through Lassen). We will do that again this time, stopping at Medicine Lake to camp and then heading on to Bend the next day.
From I-80/Truckee on up to Oregon is days 7,8,9 of the Quest.
I am thinking that we will be going up this way on Wed./Thurs. to arrive in Bend on Thurs. evening.
Brents347 - The PCQ route from Truckee north sounds pretty amazing from the ride report you linked in. It seemed to take them 4 days to get to Bend. Do you know ways around the trouble sections and dead ends they ran into?
Massive fires near Lassen and Shingletown/Manton may have an impact on your routing...
I never read the whole report! So I don't know of the trouble spots or dead ends. I do know that I rode from Truckee to Old Station in one day (days 7 and 8 for them) and it wasn't that hard. There was one spot where we got 'lost' on some Sierra Pacific Industries land. We just couldn't make link the GPS route to the roads we were on. Eventually, using the GPS, we were wble to make things connect and ride on out. Maybe 30 minutes lost. We also rode it in June of 2011 and there was a TON of snow. We lost alot of time in the Gold Lake area. Maybe another 90 minutes or more. And also, as it gets later in the day you can always hop out to the road at one of the very many crossings and make up some miles.
The fires, now that may be another issue. Using the PCQ maps and fire maps from the internet, it looks like the section from Quincy to lake Almanor and the section of Hwy 89 through Lassen park could be in question.
Be ready for some hot dry weather in central Oregon. We are having one of worst summers as far as rain goes in sometime. Lots of dusty trails and roads. All we can do is hope some of the thunder storms drop a lot of rain and not much lightning. We have already had over a million acres burn here. Grim. Riding will still be fun, just dusty.
Hey! I've got a group coming up from SF, I was thinking of trying to get as far as the Klamath Falls area, but Medicine Lake looks like a good destination too.
Any interest in meeting up and ring up to Bend as a group on Thursday?
25 and over! PFFT
Don't think I missed it from earlier in the thread - anyone riding out from Salt Lake City? Any interest joining up?
Could also meet in Idaho somewhere.
