Anyone ridden in the Angeles National Forest lately? I just moved to Eagle Rock from Tejas and it looks like you would be the guys to ask about fire roads/anything dirt.
...90% of ANF trails are closed to vehicles, correct me if I'm wrong...
^ Correct, and more like 99.99% of the trails are off limits for motorcycles due to foot & mtn bike traffic. (I also mtn bike up there.)
A good number of fire roads are also closed due to the campgrounds being closed for the winter season, they open back up in April.
There's one fire road 3N15 that goes from Charleton Flats to Chilao that's open; it's short but a nice hop to get some dirt action on.
Rapid dog is right. Very few trails open. We got lucky last winter and the rincon was open with snow on it. If you take the Angeles crest out to the desert there is plenty to do. My buddy and I always ride from silver lake up little tujunga to rowher flats. Awesome local spot.
Thanks for the info! I'll check out 3N15 or Rowher flats this weekend.
Hey guys in from Upland and just bought a 990. I will snooping in here looking for nice mellow rides to get my feet. I haven't been on dirt for a few years now. Looking forward to some great ridding
this thread hibernates in the winter time...:huh just kidding. people still ride just not posting their ride reports.
the desert is prime for cold season riding. mojave has plenty of good areas to practice and ride. maybe 1 more ride before it gets hot. then in the summer, we head out to higher elevations like big bear, mammoth and the coast.
rowher flats is a good local place to ride anytime and convenient.
i organize rides here but the death valley noobs rally is keeping me busy.
good chance starting this april, i will post at least 1 group ride a month. most rides are fire roads , double tracks, dirt, gravel, etc. mostly big bike friendly.....trust me...hahaha.
i heard from a good source that they will open angeles forest.... i will believe it if i see it.
Yes the AHC is a good year 'round ride although most of the kids 'n squids get too cold and drop out at this time , you'll find it very nice indeed to ride up to Wrightwood for a nosh .
Or , just a fast blast up to Newcombs Ranch for coffee or brekkie and back again before work or those weekend honey-do's .
WELCOME to Sunny Southern California ! .
The good folks here have regular outings to Rowher Flats and etc. you should look into if you're an off pavenent typ .
im up for easy rides Joel.
of course al, it's always an easy ride.
hope your work sched allows you to ride on sat and sun.
see you later.

would love to get together in one of the coming weekends for a ride, looking for maybe 95% street, 5% dirt
i'm on a strom, but really dont have much desire to take it on anything other than a fire road
I'm a bit far from you, but happy to meet up sometime. My GSA see's about 99% road riding. (dirt riding w/ the designated bikes)
I often do a day ride up through Angeles Crest, lunch at Newcomb's, ..or up through Big Bear and around.
I am just putting my KLR back together today and need to get her out on the road.... I would love to get out this weekend!
Anyone up for a local ride tomorrow?
When: Tomorrow, Saturday @ 08:30 at Burger King (4150 E Highland Ave, Highland, CA 92346) located in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
Where: Old City Creek trail (1N09) to Angelus Oaks for lunch; up Clarke's grade to Big Bear; 3N16 from the land fill heading west, to Green Valley Lake, slab to Lake Arrowhead and take Pilot Rock rd (2N33) to Miller canyon to Silverwood Lake / I-15.
:eek1 you know it gets dark at 1730.... That's a good route
Wish I could join you
Hi Noel It'd be great to ride with you again. Yeah, as long as we keep moving and don't have any problems I hope to be off the mountain by sunset. We shall see.
I was going to do old city on sunday.
Join us Saturday if you'd like company.
