Aw, I'll be out of the country. I'll be there in spirit. Good to see you for a sec the other weekend Joel.

See some of you at IMS this morning. Stopping at Nicks for a burrito then aisles of smiles with my umbrella girl.

Home from the IMS show, beat. Traffic was epic stupid on the way out. My bad ankle is not happy with me and my back is in rebellion. I found a nice red I'm beating both into submission with.
Fun time at the show. Got to see some old and dear friends. It has been too long.
I'll find a place to post images here soon.
I think the 500 EXCF is in my future.

    IMS = Beta RS. MoskoMoto.

    That's all I gotta say. :D

Seriously, our Friday group had blast, started at Hooters, walked to the opening, and enjoyed a very non-busy show. No traffic going home either.

The vintage display was epic. Waved hello to Mr. Doffo - he had a bunch of bikes there. Very nice!

OK. So my son (grown ass man, not a kid), his buddy and I are trying to get some shooting in the next time we go to Octillo Wells. Our main goal is riding but on the way back or on the way out, we may want to pop a few shots off.

Where is a legal place to shoot out there? We'll be shooting pistols and may be a rifle or maybe even shotguns if it's legal to throw clay targets out there.

Since I moved to SoCal 9 years ago, I've only did shooting ranges so I don't know much about how to shoot on BLM lands.

    Thanks.

Legal areas between LA and ocotillo via 10 fwy are far and few between...if any, blm maps outline legal areas but most are limited to shotgun and trash must be removed ....picking up shattered clays gets old fast.i don't know of any areas, big bear has a couple open areas buts that is not on the way.

Sure, just head over by the trail to Fish Creek Canyon, south of the hiway that runs along the southern border of the OHV park, up west near the railroad tracks - there's a whole shooting/target area. Lots of shooters. Can't miss it. It's not very far from the hiway either.

Any BLM land is cool as long as you follow setback rules and avoid closed areas - any area where there's riding. You can download the open and closed areas for each county. It's just easier to find one of the target areas where everybody else shoots.

BTW, Fish Creek Canyon is just awesome. So is Blair Valley, up the hill towards Julian.

Berdoo is very popular for target shooting - off dillon road near Palm Desert.

During stage 4 fire closures everything is closed 'till you get to Palm Springs. I think that has been lifted now. Bee Canyon near Hemet was closed for awhile during the last fire closures.

Thanks for the info. I tried google and think I found it here:

Just east of Borrego Springs is an area that is outside the AB NP where you can shoot legally. Take Palm Canyon East past the airport to where it turns left and becomes Pegleg Road- there are few roads on the right that will take you to some mud hills that are still ouside of the Park Boundaries where people shoot. Not as crowded as the area mentioned above and some fun places to 4-wheel, camp, and ride.

Hi everyone, I just joined advrider and this is my first post, just wanted to introduce myself to the locals and perhaps meet-up in the future for a ride.

My name is Russ, I'm 55 and I live in Pasadena and just bought a 2016 DR-650 with 2200 miles on the clock 3 weeks ago and am fitting the bike out for better dirt manners.

The previous owner did a nice job fitting-out the bike but sold it before he could finish it so I'm picking-up where he left off. He decked it out for long journeys with bags and a Baja tank, I'm making it more dirt worthy (RaceTech suspension, Karoo 3 tires, Scotts steering damper, Renthal bars and better bash protection). I've been having a mid-life crisis since I was 16 but gave up my 84 XR-250 back in 91 and bought a Suzuki 4x4 and road the wheels off that until I sold it in 97

I also had a KX-80 big wheel w/a 105cc kit decked out for trail riding which was more akin to a 25 hp mountain bike and was a blast to ride (my excuse for it was I bought it for my ex wife (who was terrified of it) so I had a 142 lb bike to play with out in the woods next to the XR).

I lived in New England and didn't move out here until 99 and haven't been riding in the dirt since. The bulk of my riding is on road bikes (RD-350's, Kawi H1, Suzuki RG-500 and a TL1000R) and all off-roading was in forest like in the pic above. Desert riding is new to me but I've lived here long enough to know what the basic requirements are but I'm sure I have much to learn in this regard.

I've put close to a 1000 miles on it a lot of that on back roads. I was dicing it thru Latigo Canyon road last weekend and surprised how well this bike handles in the twisties even with the stock Trail Wings and suspension.

My bike is still a "work in progress" but it should be finished in a couple of weeks and I also need to get some off-road pants, jacket and body protection.

Would like to hook-up with a ride sometime but first would like to meet-up with a local guy so I can shakedown both the bike and rider in the trails before riding with a larger group. If anyone lives near Pasadena and knows a local trail and want's to kick-up a few rocks shoot me a PM. This bike is in showroom condition, has never seen the dirt and it shows which is a bit embarrassing riding around town on a Dual Sport that looks like it was just waxed.

    thanx
