when is the next big bike ride?

now that i wore out the shoes on the africa twin, have to decide whether to go knobs or street tires.

thinking of Dec. 27 to 30th, overnight in Carrizo then to Pinnacles National Park...https://www.nps.gov/pinn/index.htm

we could meet in ojai and do the traditional breakfast at emporium cafe. we haven't been to this place for 2 years now.

    camp in carrizo.

next day ride to pinnacles, camp and explore.

    fourth day ride home.

kiese. we'll need more than 4 days to do that. i'm sure folks would want to celebrate the new year's ever with their families.

ben, that's awesome. impressed that you and dave can really ride that fast......:thumb

Ya, I've never heard of Pinnacles either. Hmmm...
Mountain Home State Forest is another one, if a buddy hadn't told me about it would never have known about it - it's up just north of Camp Nelson in the Sierra foothills.

Pinnacles is one of the newest NP's (designated in 2013). Used to be a National Monument.

It's small, but has some nice hiking trails and cool rock formations.

I was on that trip and yes, I did catch a little rainbow trout in this spot ... was getting more bites until a Boy Scout troop decided to go swimming.

Let's do it again...Camp Nelson cabin redux. What an awesome place to visit. I'll bet that falls was boiling this spring.

In 2011 we went out to the end of Kings Canyon - Lodgepole was packed - got the last space, but everything was virtually empty out at Kings Canyon. Awesome falls out there too...
That year was also a flood year - the one we had 68' of snow in the Sierras and Sherman Pass didn't open 'till the fourth of July.
    All big-bike/road-bike friendly.

Roaring River Falls here, we also hiked into Tokopah Falls, scenic as well.

Nice video! Did you have another person along with a drone?
I'd ride those roads on my GS... but at maybe a quarter the speed:D

Mexican hat is a cool destination, but it's a looong way from anywhere, especially lower elevations where its not frozen in winter.

after the 4-day xmas holiday, peeps should be looking for a ride, unless they have to back to work.

let's see who else would be interested.

Thanks! Yeah, my brother was flying the drone in the mountain section. He followed us in a truck and parked when we found a cool section of trail to start filming.

The video footage was actually from two different rides: Carrizo Plains, and Rockfront/Sierra Madre. I'm hoping to get him out there with us more often!

Pinnacles NP is really pretty cool. Some great hikes through talus caves. Make sure you do that. Only a couple of miles.

Perhaps the best thing is hanging out at the campground and watching the condors soaring overhead. We were there a couple of years ago and counted 12 at one time. Bring some binoculars if you can.

I'm planning on a road trip that week to show my oldest daughter Death Valley. If that doesn't happen, I'll ride down and camp with y'all.

Sounds like a great ride. Sorry we're going to miss it. We're going to head out to Panamint Springs for a few days for some nOOb rides. Wifey wants to get some seat time in before the big 'event'.
