That looks like a similar pack that we came across at the CNF Maple Springs Gate a month ago. Coming back down the mountain we say a few of them again ... 8 or 9 bikes parked on a corner and a bunch of them trying to pull a bike from a tree several feet below the trail. Funny stuff.

I’ve heard of Grom racing groups (on tracks), sounds like a hoot!

I'd like to play with a Grom. Looks like fun. I have no real need / use for one. After a couple hundred miles, it would end up as garage clutter.

Maybe the Grom thing is the commercial evolution of the pit bike racing thing from like10-15 years ago. Whatever the case, I'm sure it would be a lot of fun to ride one, but for me, more in a novelty way like riding a neighbor kid's mini bike. Thanks for all the insight.

I'm envisioning a swarm of West LA rich kids invading the 35th Edition of LAB2V on these in NOV.

I'll be sure to get off your lawn!
-Your friendly neighborhood millennial (who doesn't own a Grom or use Waze, but enjoys food trucks and chocolate cake).

I'm planning on taking the 1090 to Carizzo this weekend. Nothing heavy (n00b friendly) and nothing planned aside from getting there via 33, riding Elkhorn and just tooling around until I feel like going home. Never been there before.

this weekend we'll see a cooling off. wish i can join you to carrizo but don't have a big bike for the next 3 weeks.

for this saturday, one more chance to ride with good weather. all i can do is truck my xr400 to McDs at Cajon Pass . KSU by 8am, then ride it to big bear via the back side (bowen's ranch, coxey, big pine, 3n16 to BB lake). lunch at our favorite mex restaurant azteca grill.

same route as the 06/16/13 ride

if there's still time, i would be interested to do Cleghorn. return to McDs and load the bike up.

sorry if others could not join due to Father's Day, but if the celebration won't be till the evening, join us. i plan to be home by 6pm.

A Saturday ride sounds great. I'll try to join you - either at McD's or when you go past my place on Roundup Way (just east of where it turns to dirt)

Also, I'd humbly suggest that as you head west back towards Arrowhead you might consider taking 2N13 (aka "snowslide") instead of 3N16. It's a much more interesting ride and definitely less crowded. And yes, there a few short minor rough spots, but nothing super technical.

You can find 2N13 just north of Fawnskin - about a mile or so after the road out of town turns to dirt. On the map you'll see that it passes the turn-off to Butler Peak Lookout (2N13) which is worth checking out when you have more time. Eventually 2N13 drops you onto the east end of Green Valley Lake Road. From there its a short pavement run to where 3N16 ends by Crab Flats and then beyond to SR-18.

As an FYI for any of the noobish riders thinking about going, the route suggested by NSFW is generally flat and smooth, with a few very short and shallow sandy sections. Definitely big bike friendly.

And if you're slow you can keep me company in the back of the pack.

    See you out there...

is this the very short and shallow sandy sections that kicked my ass 2 weeks ago. I don't know if I can show my face on that road yet.
