Thanks for showing up guys...another good ride. Glad to see JM and Oni again, and ride with the famous Cap'n Jack.

Boy I was worn out by the time I got home.

Hard to beat this ride, 100+ miles of dirt and canyon riding, and amazingly I only used $10 of gas  !

In the parking lot of Ranch Side Cafe.

Only 30 minutes in the ride, JM got a flat tire.

The 3 of us never had a flat tire and surprisingly all the video watching to fix a flat paid off. Sito did most of the work and thankfully he has all the tools and an air compressor. :clap

That was a learning experience and thanks to the rest for patiently waiting for us. It took us less than a hour, not too bad for first timers.

Break time, the best part of the ride for my tired body.

    Sito blasting
    [IMG]

    Then came Oni
    [IMG]

    Artboy next
    [IMG]

It appears the branch is going to hit JM's neck
    [IMG]

Capn Jack and his sweet 625
    [IMG]

    Sito and his never-been-dropped 950
    [IMG]

    Artboy found snow (again!)

Oni found himself deeper and the Sahara's are not making it any better.

A little help took care of it.

Artboy really love this stuff, and he did very well truthfully
    [IMG]

    Finally found some good dirt
    [IMG]

Darn it, we ran out of dirt and onto the pavement. Really not too bad since it's mostly twisties, and we get to wear out the chicken strips.

We thought of doing Lynx but after filling ourselves up, the sofa and tv seems to be the best alternative. We all headed home.

Thanks again guys for the company and for pushing me harder :pierce

Eventually once you guys switched to a slower bike, I won't be too far behind. Like I said this morning, I'm not slow, I just like to take pictures.

Hey Capn Jack, good riding with you and showing us the full capability of that 625SXC! The X-Challenge does not like snow! :eek1

Now we know why you guys were parked on the side of AFH. We could have given you extra hands but JM was your guy, he had a fresh training earlier at the start of the ride :lol3 .

OK, Sito and others, the next ride is Lynx! Is the 15th (next Saturday) sounds a good day! :deal Meet at the shell station? or at the trail head? We need Grinder, Wxl, and Doghouse to join us this time.

My mistake was following Sito after his wheelspinning (never been dropped) 950 really chewed up the snow...and not having knobbies. I got to the part where he grabbed a big handful of throttle and my forward momentum stopped.

I was watching him and thinking I should go through the other rut...but somehow ending up in the same rut he did. :huh Doh.

That was a fun ride. Not having breakfast...by the end of the trail I was needing food in a bad way. :1drink It was really good...but next time I'm not gonna order bacon on my burger! It was tough watching you guys chow down while waiting for my burger! :deal

Thanks for putting the ride together Joel. Nice riding with everyone.

Easy, if you're riding a bike with twice the cylinder and twide the displacement :2guns , everything around you is a blurr.

    Artboy's 400 + my 400 = 800 < 940 (Sito) :fight

Oni, you got screwed following Sito's trail, what about me? I could have ordered the regular cheese burger and instead followed you and ask for the same.

At the end, we're all sore, but enjoyed a good ride. And learning to fix flats for the first time is a handy experience.

Thanks to Zen Slug for sharing the map below.

If you remember at the end of the ride when we hit Angeles Forest Highway, there's a little parking lot across. That's the trail head and on the map above, it's the spot with a lot of red markers with the name Aliso Spring. The trail is highlighted in green (continuation of the SCD and Mt. Gleason), and it's not as long as the one we did last week but pretty challenging for riders like me.

It's predicted rain will come this Sunday.

Saturday is cloudy and mid 60s. I'm putting new springs on my XR and will ride this Saturday (again).

The plan is to do Lynx, but I don't know how to get there. Last time, we got lost and ended up catching it at Monte Cristo Camp. Someone mentioned that if we do that, we missed 1/3 of the ride.

    Joel

If you go up Angeles Forest past the Cafe where we ate, then right by the Forest Service Station turn right on Upper Big T...go maybe 4 miles and you will see sign for Lynx on the left.

I thought we can start from where we ended up from Mt. Gleason, just right across the highway through the parking lot. Dogh, ArtB, and I did it but might have gotten the wrong turn and got lost.

    Thanks Oni.

Remember the first 2 times we did it? From the Ranger station, down the hill, we went right both times and did the hill climb to the pavement. We need to hook left before you get to the low area, it looked like a secondary trail, but it's the correct one. Grinder and I slogged through the snow from the other direction. Sunday's good for me !
