I generally attend a golf tourney up in Oregon/Washington and a few years ago one of the other attendees posted to the group that he had checked the weather report and it looked like the weather was going to be "perfect."

On the second day of the tourney we were driven off the course by torrential rain, flooding, hail, high winds (60+mph), and thunderstorms. Consequently, that guy was given the nickname "Dillhole," which I think stuck for a couple years before he was forgiven. Anyone who comment about the weather in that group anymore is taking their lives in their hands. :lol3

    I'm in for camping..

The ride report didn't give the full story on the STICKY MUD that exists in Carrizo. ANYONE with a low front fender should consider modifying said fender before going on this ride. DAMHIK Riding the mud was not a problem, just locking up that front tire creates a major problem.

Non plated bikes are OK on trail type roads. Soda Lake Rd. must be plated though, per DDennis. Not sure green or red sticker though.

The weather is expected to improve. Last night we got an inch of snow. Today Simmler and Panorama roads were not passable, although Soda Lake was fine. I expect that parts of Elkhorn and the roads back into the canyons would be muddy. The expected clear weather should dry that up. I think. I won't ride my 250 Ninja next weekend though. :rofl

Weather forecast for the vicinity of the Selby Campground:
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 66. :clap
Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 34. :cry
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 64. :clap
All according to the National Weather Service

    Regarding non-plated bikes :deal
In the winter Red stickers are OK in most OHV areas. The Carrizo has very limited opportunities for Green/Red stickers bikes though. Inside the Carrizo no one can ride or travel off-road, only on roads, so you can operate OHVs only on roads. Since the county roads like Soda Lake, Elkhorn, Simmler, Panorama are illegal to ride on without plates, this leaves the BLM maintained roads. That means generally on the Caliente Mountain roads (west side). Obviously this place is best for jumbo Dual Sports.

The mud was in the Valley Floor. It kind of sneeks up on you, doesn't look like anything too hard to ride through (it isn't), next thing you know your on the ground with a locked front wheel.
Mike didn't want to go over the hills into Taft for fear of mud in those hills. The hills to the west were dry and slightly dusty. Your GS will be fine as long as you pull that low front fender off..
