Well that's one way to go I guess.:huh
very nice footage tim.....i know that's a lot of work, and thanks for posting..
we met on orovista so we can do scd in the reverse order
jim, me, danny, and tim; that pressure suit saved my skin on this ride..
upper big t, hugging the inside
the 2 huskies brian and aaron waiting for the rest
dannyG was loaded
nowwhat's 8" hid doing the job
for the first time, my xr let me down.... a loose choke lever won't allow air to flow through. this i found out later on when xymotic was getting my ride
everyone stepped away as danny kickstarted my bike...
soon, sports bike showed up
after xymotic volunteered to ride back and get his truck, the FFs reluctantly left and continue on with the ride.
from hereon, tim's video will take you along for the ride....
after i got my bike to fire up, turned around to meet xymotic on his way up to get me. good he wasn't far from orovista, and we decided to leave the truck in the baseball park and catch the FFs by skipping lynx and 4n24
i was impressed how this bike hauler works
we hauled ass and directly got on scd. doing it in the reverse direction made it look different and unfamiliar
xymotic was smart to let me test the water....
having done scd a hundred times, i felt very confident, but i forgot we were doing the reverse order. the terrain was new to me and the dumber side of me didn't think of it. i entered this corner, hard pack dirt with silt on top of it, and OFF CAMBER......i didn't even slow down and the rear wheel slid away; low sided and skid about 10 ft away.
atgatt saved my butt, almost. the damaged, torn pressure suit, pants, bruised left elbow, cut in right palm, tweaked my left knee and swollen left ankle
this design is not the best, the 2 molded plastic armors are too far apart, instead of full coverage. check out xymotic and spafxer's alpinestar elbow protection from previous pics.
the result, the edges of the plastic cups scraped my skin
spend a little money, get the dainese or alpinestar....though i like the dainese since it was crash tested by nowwhat....
Or the Acerbis Koerta if you can find one.
Jeeze Joel! I asked you if you were ok and you said "Yah"
I guess you were in shock. Do you want your Alpinestars suit back? Say the word.
Were you wearing knee braces or shin guards?
xymo, at the time, it was my ego that said ok...
i had the pdmx knee brace on, it could have prevented further knee injury by minimizing knee twist.
i like the alpinestar but it's not compatible with the leatt neck brace. the back support tends to pull the neck brace further back.
the good thing about riding on a sat, i was able to rest the whole sunday. i'm feeling a little better, though i doubt if i can do KM next weekend. i'll know by thursday afternoon.
another lesson learned and i hope those who read this got something out of it (at my expense... )
i'm feeling a little better, though i doubt if i can do KM next weekend. i'll know by thursday afternoon.
:huh you better not be pussing out on KM! Let me know if you need a little medical magic to help the healing process
Joel, sorry to hear about your slideout. DIT DA JOW!
Sorry about your crash. Sounds like you might be wearing the Leatt outside of your pressure suit? It's supposed to be worn right on your body, with the pressure suit worn on top of it. My order is:
Dri-fit running shirt
Koerta suit, worn over the Leatt. The front zips mostly up, close enough
I may have a couple jerseys altered, to make the neck bigger so it fits over the Leatt and over the pressure suit.
You all have it wrong.
1. Drink until you're drunk
2. Drink some more
3. Fill your Camelback with alcohol and keep riding....while drinking.
4. Stop every 30 minutes to drink some more.
5. If you drink beer, you might need to have your clothing altered to fit your pressure suit/beer belly.
I'm glad to hear that joel is doing OK. I was in the Starbucks right next to the meeting place, I met ruger in the morn, going to the islands to do some deep sea diven next week, then latter on around 2:00 Jim and Tim came in after the shoot and said h8chains was in a crash. Hurt and going home. Just think how you would feel if you were only wearing a jersy. I would like to meet you up at KM, if you go up, I wiil putt slow with you. Take care and putt slow, the butt
thanks for all the responses...and good i still came out ok, just bruised and swollen. nothing a long rest and ibupropen will not fix, just a matter of time.
then this morning, i read the mri report regarding my left shoulder, contrary to what i was told, it wasn't a torn muscle. i might need a minor surgery to remove the fluid in the joints, degenerative osteoarthritis ?, and a bunch of little things.....:eek1 that was when i fell on ice last december's ice capade ride !
by the time i got to the range, the FFs already fired as much as 200 rounds that they brought with them.
the parking lot was full of vehicles, but the range was relatively empty
the sopasfamily brought a lot of firepower, they were still in the thick of things when i saw them ..... next time, they will have competition...
mooseboy giving amber some help
amber could shoot better than she can ride....:eek1
and cathy could ride and shoot all in the same day.....
i wasn't in the shape to shoot anything though i brought 2 handguns and 200 rounds which i'll just use on the next " <S>Right</S> Ride to Bear Arms Part II
plus hardware and military rounds
tim and jim rode to starbucks while i headed home and thinking what am i going to tell my gf....
rich, when i was sliding forward, my helmet was scraping the ground, and i felt the leatt brace kept my head in place. w/o it, i swear, i could have screw up my neck too.....
dunerat's carne asada alone is worth the drive to km....
worst case, i'll ride shotgun with m1jeep on his jeep.
Bring a gun and all that ammo and you can guard the asada.
big Joel...heal fast my friend,,,,
I feel a Jersey over the pressure suit helps keep the suit from grabbing its edges and puling apart like your's did at the elbow....
Hey Xymotic, what's the details on that elaborate bike loader thingy?
Joel. I just heard about the crash. Glad to hear that you going to be ok. Thanks to all you ff A pressure suit is next on the list. Ill see you guys on the trail in a few more weeks. Ben
Ouch, I'm starting to think I'll just wear my 2 piece leather suit! I'll take the shoulder armor out and wear my dirt chest/back protector & Camel Bak.
I always had doubts about those pressure suits, heck I took a fall Sat on Frazier Mtn going downhill on my WR250 and my left elbow guard moved out of place and I got a nice little scrape on the left elbow!
Well, I picked up my '09 XR650L today after work, what a machine! I'll be out in a few weeks after I wear in the engine and get use to it.
Just speaking for myself...I have hit a bus...a KTM 250 and many sections of dirt and my pressure suit has perfomed flawlessly.... ....I won't ride without one...
