before we hit grant lake, we cut across the 395 onto w. portal rd.

    we had a smooth start....:clap
    [IMG]

and never thought our enjoyment will ever end
    [IMG]

going so fast, i missed the turn, so did a u-turn with a little twist...:muutt

can you read my license plate now?.....:lol3
    [IMG]

from portal we turned on bald mountain rd....and the terrain is starting to look sketchy...:D
    [IMG]

with my little experience on sand, i struggled and blasted my way up
    [IMG]

looking back, i zoomed in on my companieros; it seems someone's bike went off the road
    [IMG]

upon close examination, i realized it was the bike with a huge white gas tank...:wave
    [IMG]

spafxer being on a light back, he turned around to save someone's day :pynd

check out the tracks we left behind.......:poser
    [IMG]

dooowee rode up like a different person once he was on the exc; meantime...jim looks awesome on the klr..

dooowee was wondering how did jim able to ride the klr on a straight line..:confused
    [IMG]

i can see an exc on dooowee's future; hey fh, you got some round eyes...:clap

Man I was PISSED on that section. :kboom I think I dropped it 5 times in 200 yards or something stoopid like that.

Watching Jim ride the KLR up the same hill I was struggling on made me realize it's the Indian and not the arrow. :lol3

Duy, if you bring a GS. Better hit the JL classes real hard or better hit the gym. Hope you have a buddy that has roids. It is a b*tch to pick the pig up. I have picked it five times in one day and I was whipped. Nothing lifting 600lbs.

If that were only the case. I'ld have two in the garage. SM one, hard core dirt for the second.

The last drop before Jim took over was on the right side up on the berm and in the bushes. I couldn't even lift the KLR back up so no GS's for me. My next dirty bike will likely be a 570 :evil

the 2 switched horses once we got on the good section
    [IMG]

very pretty and lots of shade ; strange we diidn't see other people
    [IMG]

then we hit pavement; randy and duy decided to stay on the black top and rode back. while jim and i rode to the other side of the 395 (west side)
and discovered a dirt road that ends on main st. and 1 block from our motel.....:ricky
    [IMG]

once we got to the motel, in no time jumped into the pool....causing others to flee...:poser
    [IMG]

it didn't take long, duy joined us with a little keg
    [IMG]

uuuhmmm, jim got his reward for being a caring buddy....:whip

The one thing good about age..... we older folk like to call it "experience" I have a lot of that ! :norton

I've been riding dirt since about 8 years old. I'm relatively new on the street though... Only 13 years of 'experience' on that.

I wish I was better at identifying what you lack in riding the sand. A teacher like Jimmy Lewis could help you more, I'm sure. Look what it's done for Joel :clap

Check with DannyG to be sure, but I don't think tacking really helps that much in the sand. It's more of a sailing against the wind thing.

The biggest request that Jimmy Lewis gets in his classes is for help in the sand. He usually spends adequate time on it. Unfortunately, we all took his class in Keyesville where there wasn't any sand. Maybe there will be some at the October class. I've actually become pretty comfortable in sand. It use to be one of the worst things for me. To some extent, the faster you go, the easier it is, which then just leaves the fear factor.

Jim, riding Duy's bike is a pretty sneaky way of getting him to ditch the Barbie KLR.

Speaking of Randy - has anyone heard from him since WMRS?

Eric and everyone else: believe me - I wasn't trying to tack @ all! Honest! I had every intent of putting her down the road in a straight line.
