LAB2V is one of the main reasons I got my XR650R. I will post up photos soon.

Re: Tractionator HT's , I put on a fresh set for last year's LAB2V and although they are a GREAT tire, the rear was a bit slippery day 1 , I was all over the place , especially on the hill climbs, once I put some miles on them , they seemed to "break in" and they worked great, this year I think I'm gonna use a trials tire or the Motoz hybrid IT, and a different bike , last year I took my DR650 , suspension was terrible , this year an XRR

Thanks, I have read that is the case. I planned on having 100 or so easy miles on them at the start line. Big guy on a big bike needs a good tire.

if riding Bean Canyon or Jawbone hillclimbs, M5B is the only tire that'll get you to the top. :deal

tire discussion brings to mind a question. how sticky is tech or law enforcement been on legit DOT tires? i've heard things...

    you've heard wrong.:nah

tech inspection does not check tires. they check for spark arrestors. that's it. if your bike is obnoxiously loud, they will check with a sound meter.

you making your bike street legal is up to you. if you get caught with a bike that doesn't have all the necessary DOT functions (lights, horn, blinkers, tires, exhaust) that's up to you. and between you and the cops.
LAB2V does not inspect bikes like we're the CHP or DMV.
also, FWIW i have never heard or seen a cop pull over people and check their bikes.

so bottom line is, make your bike as street legal as possible, but tires are not an issue.
i've never ridden LAB2V with street legal DOT tires for almost 10 years. :deal

but the subject of tires: ride
    not at LAB2V.
and to be honest, you're in the dirt for most of the day(s).
and if you don't ride like an asshole on the pavement sections and in towns, you'll be off the radar. but do wheelies and ride over the speed limit in towns, you get the picture.
save the wheelies for the dirt.:ricky

Hey guys, me and a buddy are interested in doing this ride, but we'll be coming from a long ways away (Calgary ). We both ride converted XR650Rs that are fully legal up here in the North (plated and insured for street) and want to make sure we'd be allowed to join? Do the bikes need to be "factory" street legal, or are converted dirt bikes like ours ok?

You see a lot of converted dirt bikes with plates on LA-B-to-V.

Thanks! Just wanted to be sure it'd be a long drive down for nothing if they turned us down.

District 37 LA - Barstow to Vegas does not do DOT checks on motorcycles. just spark arrestors and if your bike is obnoxiously loud, then a sound test.
but road legalities is between you and the local law enforcement.
we ask you be legal and don't ruin it for future riders by bringing an obviously not street legal motorcycle to the event, but you sound legal and should not worry about it. :deal

Looking for a ride Thursday from Vegas to Palmdale. This is geared toward anyone rolling through Vegas from the north or east and has one or two spots open for bike and rider in their truck or trailer.

Will help with fuel, loading, unloading, directions and what ever else I can help with.

I also may have a truck going back to Palmdale Sunday morning with a couple of open spots if needed to retrieve your vehicle from the start.

Trying to do my logistics coordination now.
    EDIT:
    Rides have been found
