    Gday, any input most appreciated.

What time frame for a comfortable solo ride from LA to the circle and back via direct road route sensibility to the fore .

    Cheers

@slowbike smallpenis , that ride has been done every day of the year...seriously...so a mate like you could easily do it in December...all depends on what bike you will be riding.

But, the majority of sheilas do it in June/July/August, as those are the drier months, and roads are generally open.

Time frame...all depends again on what bike you are riding, how many miles (kilometers) you want to ride each day, etc, etc, etc.

YOU need to provide us with a LOT more information, so we can better assist you.

My Sheila is staying home. Bike, undecided however leaning towards sending over my GSA or the KLR.

Time frame, approx 5 weeks , I’m no iron butts bloke but 600klm days 4 or 5 a week is fine in OZ, I’ve driven your west coast a couple of times into Canada but unsure of conditions above Vancouver.

The Sheila... in Malaysia last week

If you're going in the winter, I'd suggest the KLR with sheet metal screws in the top of the knobbies to help with traction on the ice. Maybe start in Vancover since you've been that far. Definitely take the Sheila to stay warm and help you pick up the KLR. :-)

Seems like late June through early August is a popular time... at and after the solstice so you have long days, the snow is mostly gone, there's been a couple of months of road work so any major problems have been taken care of, etc. I've been contemplating a similar ride, and that's the window I'd choose. I'd take my GSA over the KLR... most of this is going to be overland travel on decent roads and the GSA is a much better bike for weeks-long road/back road/gravel road trips than any KLR. Especially when you pack it with gear.

    ... it's a looong ride on a KLR ... :ricky

... late June is fun because you can
go to the Dust to Dawson rally
in Dawson City and watch the
sun never set up by the Arctic Circle
    on the Dempster Hwy ...

... five weeks would be just about perfect ... :thumb

I took 61/2 weeks from San Diego to Alaska and back on my 2011 GSA. A smaller bike might be good in some places but on the loooong stretches in Canada and Alaska the GSA is much better. I had no troubles on the Dalton on my GSA and had very little dirt experience before then. The D2D was great fun to attend and I recommend it. I chronicled my trip if you want to read my blog: kevinsmotoadventure.blog.

Definitely factor in D2D.......it may be the best non rally in the whole wide World. Motorcycle street games start at Midnight on Main St. (which we take over and OWN!). Be there or be square.

The wee bonny 'sheila' will be visiting Family in Scotland come May so I dont think she will be venturing back to the Northern Hemisphere more than once in 2018
