what happened to thecameratoter?
You guys are going to have coronary issues long before the trip is over if you keep eating like this.
Great ride report so far, thanks for sharing.
Would like to get some clarification regarding Phase 3 of the TLH. You stated that you left Goose Bay to get on Phase 3, where on 510 does it connect?
For some reason I thought that the road would travel from Goose Bay to somewhere close to Cartwright but that can't be as you stated that Goose Bay to Port Hope Simpson was about 240 miles.
so i created a new one.
the intersection to get on Phase 3 is about 3 miles before you get to Goose Bay- right at the Welcome to Happy Valley Goose Bay sign.
The intersection with the Labrador Coastal Drive is about midway between Cartwright and Port Hope Simpson. We skipped Cartwright as there was no point in driving up there just to turn around.(our opinion)
You got honorable mention on the tor thread. Brian posted a link to the Bob's article about you and your Daughter. Really nice!
Now go to bed... WTH are you doing up?
Loving your ride report. So how far is it from Goose Bay to Port Hope Simpson? Those would be the only places to fill with fuel correct? It looked like you had a fuel can with you.
Thanks lakota. As this section has just been opened there are no accurate maps and Google Maps does not have the road listed either. Just trying to map it out.
I believe in an earlier post he said it was about 240 miles.
There is a Google Map on this page with the final phase drawn on it....
I went through on August 17th just as they were installing the new sign. You can't miss it.
If I remember correctly....on that section my VStrom ran out of gas at 209 miles (just after I fell over in a pull off that was soft sand). I put in my gallon can and then ran out at 247 miles. I got a half gallon from a passing BMW and made the gas station at 249 miles.
Moral of story....those BMW guys are not so bad after all.
He better be having a pee. There's no time for that other stuff on a road trip. But i guess it's pretty remote, and you never know when those blue pills are going to make themselves known.
we had it as 240 miles from the turn to Port Hope Simpson. I added 2 gallons with about 30 miles to go. On the F658 Jack had his on board computer reading 8 miles to empty when he pulled into the first gas station in Port Hope Simpson.
there is no gas between the two.
gps tracks for phase 3 here
Thanks for the map / assist.
Wonder how long it will be before Google Maps catches up?
l' Anse Aux Medows tomorrow?
Here's a funny one...
They have placed 360 sandbags at City Dock.... :huh
360 entire bags?.... they must not be thinking Earl is gonna do anything.
Say good morning to Lief Ericson for me.
EDIT... @ 0630spot says they're at L' Ance
I did the Trans-Lab in July. Glad to see someone stopped to take a few pics for me. Upon entering Canada the border guard asked our group how long we are staying and where we are going and said repeatedly "Do you know how far that is? Man your aren't going to see nothin' but road." He was correct to a large degree. But after all some trips are meant to be exactly that.
the vikings say hi!
no report yesterday cuz the internet connection sucked
hope to get 2 up tonight
I am loving this thread and I will be saving it for reference
I just put a deposit on a Yamaha Super Ténéré and will be getting the bike sometime in May next year. I was planning on going to Labrador with my brother but now will probably do the route you guys are doing.
Love your pictures and description of the roads.
Wow, 240 miles, not sure if the Yamaha will do it, my current Concours would do it easily with it's 7.5 gallons but the Concours is not the bike to travel on those roads. I guess I will have to carry fuel or I will just siphon from my brothers BMW GS1200A
