AJ, are you guys diving into the OHV area or are you on big bikes... or both?
Several will do Millican, several will do BB routes.
I think I'll fit into the middle somewhere
Was a great weekend in the desert.
Love the camp spot Justin
That was a great camp we watched the sunset and rise again from right there!
Anybody riding east of Bend today?? I'm heading out to check out the Sand Springs campground mid morning.
Wow, awesome thread! I'm hoping to ride out your way a lot more this Summer.
Spent the weekend in Austin, TX with my old crew... already 99 degrees out there (yesterday). Went by a lot of my old haunts and hooked up with some of my old riding buddies. I have to say... even though it was snowing tonight when we got home, I didn't miss it at all :)
Saw some ADV looking dude on a fully loaded KLR heading south from Madras to Bend tonight, wonder who that was? I think he had Utah plates. My 5 year old son threw him a "shaka" from the back seat and he returned the favor
Rob look us up, there's some good riding over here.
Hello, Jason here. Wanted to say hello to this thread, so to speak, and look forward to seeing everyone out on the back roads. I grew up in the valley, but my family has had a farm here in Terrebonne since the early 1900's. Coming here as a kid (I'm 43 now, apparently) I spent quite a bit of time walking Smith Rocks. Even walked to the top with my mom as a kid, since we see it from the place...
I am moving to the Seattle area this summer, but am living here while I look for a house in the Duvall area. I moved my bikes up yesterday to make moving easier in a month, and figured I might go for a ride this afternoon. I checked google maps and saw some FS roads starting at Skull Hollow Campground and headed over. No road closures, and gate open on 2 track leading to the top, only closed Sept 28 - March 31. My dualsport is not set up for dirt as it's got Scorpions on it, but no bother, just have to go slower. It was a pretty easy double track ride to about 200 yards from the summit where a fence line had a double barb wire very flimsy gate, and no keep out signs...but I stopped and snapped a pic before turning around. Definitely some steep sections and sandy before the top, but nothing terribly technical.
Anyway, looking forward to moving up for good in a month. I did the OBCDR loop from here of 4/3/2/5 and am looking forward to getting over south of Sisters as well. I'm setting up my no-mar and bike lift if anyone finds themselves in the area needing anything.
If anyone has any suggestions for more technical routes, suggest away. I'm adding a 500exc when I move from CA for good so I'll have bikes for most conditions (as well as a roadbike). I've been accepted at Benddualsport, just need to get over there and say hello. Selling a house and moving takes so much damn time....
Cheers Central Ore!
Welcome back to Central Oregon.
just wanted to say hello, like the idea of a Central Oregon meet-up thread, a place to share ride info for both locals and others just passing through (wishing they actually lived here like us).
been riding mostly on the road and F.S. roads on my V-strom for years, but sold that when my youngest daughter was born last fall. tried to go without a bike for a while when my 2 girls were young... but that lasted about 6 months!
decided to try my hand with my first (plated) dirt bike -- this little blue hussy'
I don't know if its any good or not? and I seriously have no idea how to even ride it... but I am a good sport, great attitude and if anyone wants to take me out and show me a good time, I'd be all over that -
Nice Husaberg! I'm in Michigan for another week or so but I'll ride with you.
Awesome! Looking forward to it --
She's a beauty! I think you'll like it...I know my face hurts from grinning every time I ride mine
Absolutely beautiful day for a short ride, the 3 of us headed west out to the backyard.
We found dust and puddles and even some snow which made us turn around. It was a fun afternoon!
Hi Howardbell nice hussy!
Howdy new(old) guys, nice bikes both of you! Moving to Duval you say! Wow... that'll be a change. I was born in Monroe.
Turning into a great spring here, I just haven't been taking many pics. Managed to lose the darned camera SD card awhile back and just got it replaced.
The snowline is retreating quickly folks, and dusty as heck on the east side. I was out around the Mayfield Pond area after work and it's like Baja in spots. Only one good off when I was busy looking for a gate and hit a big rock...
Weekend before last I managed to ride the Ironman Poker Run and the Desert 100 the next day. It was an experience for sure, I was totally beat.
Looking forward to more rides in the near future, either of you new guys want to hit some stuff let me know (or anybody else for that matter). Petrol come on back man, Spring is here :)
