Took a ride out in the Millican area last Friday and passed through it again on Saturday (on way to CV) and back again on Sunday. Conditions are epic. No snow/ice. Soil is moist for the most part but it is dusty in places!

We almost always enter just across from the Pronghorn entrance. We hit quite a few new trails last Sunday to minimize our time on the main road which is still rutted all to heck. But I actually had fun with the ruts and mud on the way back. They don't skeer me anymore!

And when will Tony learn that I will NOT follow him into a large mud puddle?

Has anybody been out in Fort Rock OHV? I'd love to head out there this weekend if it's not snow and ice in the trees.

Sorry to miss last nights get together! Was hoping to sneak out from basketball but the coaches were short handed and needed another parental unit to keep the monkeys in check.

I went down to fort rock ohv last weekend, but turned around almost immediately. From the tiny bit I saw it was almost constant snow or ice under the trees. Unless someone else has more recent info I don't think I'd bother trying down there.

Not rideable...at all. Try Millican, Cline or Buckhorn. All three in great shape now.

Headed for Ashwood then south along Trout Creek to see if it was currently fordable. Put 96 miles on the Wee today, only 6 on pavement:clap

Took a bunch of pictures, sorry but they were all with my Galaxy S3 as I didn't bring the real camera. So I did take some time to fix them as best as possible.

Ashwood Road between Madras and Ashwood. It's in great condition right now:

Here's the first....and always deepest crossing. I considered trying it and thought it wouldn't be too tough. However I was alone, had a bald rear tire, it was getting late, and even if I did cross it, I'm pretty sure I couldn't make it across the Ochocoo's due to the snow. So this was as far as I got today.

    Here's a shot zoomed in:

Good lighting on the way home:

If you're ever riding in the area and it's been wet, do not.....believe me......do not ride south along Hay Creek Ranch road. This is what it looks like after a month without moisture:

Definitely time for a new tire....it was really squirrly today...

    Riding is great right now!!!

So, I've got a new tire on and of course I need to scrub it in. Another 100 mile day in Central Oregon. Can you spot the Vstrom?

Love these curves, just wish the road was in better condition. No traffic whatsoever:

On the way back to Madras is this grave which I've passed so many times but never checked it out.

Here's the paved and wonderfully curvy road from Hwy 97 to Ashwood. From Ashwood East, West or South it's all dirt roads.

I've been East, West, and South of Ashwood on all the dirt,
but I've never been on that pretty paved North entrance!

Thanks for the map! So many places to see... So little time...
I'm glad it's close, it would make a good detour on route to the Apple Valley Rally. :thumb

    :clap :clap :clap.

Make sure you take Trout Creek, South of Ashwood,
and go East all the way to Twickenham, through the Cherry Creek Ranch,
past Horse Heaven; proposed Wilderness that you can ride the edge of.

Two of my favs, fer sure.
You'll see no-one for 70 miles of dirt :deal
I counted eight creek CROSSINGS on Trout Creek,
and that was in August last year, more and bigger right now.....

I have been wanting to escape the Puget Sound wet weather and was exploring regions in Central Oregon for a trip on the KTM 990. I ran across your post and it fits my plans. I got out my Benchmark and checked out where you were riding and most of the roads appear to be suitable for an old farts solo trip. I will check the weather forecast and plan accordingly.

Hey AJ, MapQuest is showing that I could go north on Trout Creek Rd, out of Ashwood, and end up at Upper Tub Springs Rd and Hwy 293 near Antelope.

Have you been through that route?

Those roads are all suitable for solo, WHEN IT'S DRY!!!!
If it's been raining, caution like MadChap says.
But, remember that you are where people don't go.
So be prepared to get yourself out of a potential jam,
.....or be prepared to spend the night.
Your bones'll turn white out there, waiting for a rescue.

    I don't believe I have....not North.
I went North of Donnybrook last time I was there, up to Cold Springs road.
It was just as good a road as any of them.
