I know some people have thrown lamp faults when tapping into their brake or tail light wires. I want to put a small led strip into my GIVI top box brake light kit. These use very little power (see below to link). Looking to skip running a relay if possible. I tapped the tail and brake wires on my 2011 GSA which had led rear lights and didn't have any lamp errors (different canbus system I know).

There is no reason this should cause an issue.

Not certain I completely understand. I did place a strip inside my Givi top box so I could see the contents at night. I did not want the hassle of tapping into the harness nor connect/disconnect. I used a small project box with a 9V battery and a switch. That was 2 years ago; same battery.

From the eBay seller pic they are three 3528 LEDs in series with a single 150 Ohm resistor. That should give you about (13.5-3*3.3) Volt / 150 Ohm = 20-23 mA or 0.25 to 0.3 Watt per 3-LED subunit. (That about agrees with the 25 mA per subunit (1A per meter) in the description.) So even if you put 30 LEDs worth (ten one inch substrips), you're still only at 2.5 to 3 Watt, less than a tail or parking light.
