It only took three posts before someone highjacked the Lefthand Canyon thread! It would be nice if you exhibited some forum courtesy. I was looking forward to reading about one of my favorite roads.

I think his analogy was sound.

... and we certainly differ in our definitions of the word "road".

Wow! first time I've watched video of this. You know it's hard when you're trying to keep your front wheel a couple inches off of the ground to have traction. This trail looks hard even on video.

i still disagree. the huge off camber log crossing was boss... i built it of course and im sad to see it go... maybe coulda used some tweaks but it was a new feature for the trail... anyway ken you are now called super tractor man... my time on 838 was 3:42.... also the day i got stuck on the crux for 45 minutes and used my backpack straps as part of some riging to drag my bike up.. lol but still i couldnt imagine doin 838 much faster, props to you sir

Don't worry, I think it was a one-time magic moment for me. Glad I had the gopro rollin. I tried to beat it the other day before I hit spruce, got a little squirrely and ended up over 4 min. I know it can be beat though, you could gain several seconds just by not borking the line as I did at 18s in the vid.

Fvckin' A, Chris! You were attacking like a madman on this run. Looks like the rain trenched out the climb but good.

I was wondering when we were going to see the radiators puke. That trail is pretty.... Pretty damn gnarly.! Good job tackling it. !

Rode 838 yesterday for the first time in over a month, all our recent hard rains pretty much washed out ALL the dirt.

Definitely a good challenge if you're looking for one and haven't been up there in a while...

Not really what I was in the mood for on the 650 at the end of a long day, but fun none the less. Probably the coolest part was being circled by a bat for the last few minutes as darkness set in...

Thanks, but don't give me too much credit, I did it in the downhill direction:deal

Still a good workout on the 300lb XR though. The bottom 2/3 is the worst I've ever seen it, looks like a wall of water went down there. Pretty much just a gully of boulders up until the first sharp uphill left switchback.

The monsoons have definitely taken their toll over there, the new water bars we built on 844 are pretty well destroyed. Lots of opportunities for a fall BCTR trail maintenance day.

Got a couple days in at Lefthand last weekend.. rode solo on Sunday and realized that my first lap gave a decent tour of the whole joint. So.. for anyone curious about Lefthand that really needs to kill some time before punching out of work, here are all the legal LHC singletracks (excluding Spruce) in one loop with trail names called out.

It ain't fast or pretty.. but I guess it gets 'er done.

And 838 remains a shitfest near the bottom.

Knarly!!!!! Your videos had me swettin in my easy chair. It's been 10 minutes and I still got armpump.:eek1
Never been there, probably a dumb question, but can I, a noob back into dirt after an 18 year absence, now 60, and riding a wr250r with 50/50 tires do even the easiest roads or trails up there? My only yardstick would be I did Yankey Boy basin to the top, Black bear, and Imogene this summer.

    Thanks for the imfo

Heck yeah.. I started going out there in early '11 as a middle-aged, out of shape desk jockey on a 450 just learning how to ride a dirtbike. The nice part about Lefthand is it all dumps down back to the parking lot, so for the most part, if you find yourself in over your head you can just turn around and bail. Just steer clear of the 836/837 trail.. it's the one signed as "Extreme".

I'd recommend starting out by taking the main road (286) up to the very top and back down to 5points. If you feel good about that, try 286D (Fireman) from 5points to the top. If you've got that down, then you should be fine to start exploring the singletracks. My goal used to be just to clear a bit further each time I went out.

I'd also highly recommend a trials tire. I'm running a knobby in the vid because I was too lazy to swap, but a Pirelli MT43 with 8psi is pure gold for LHC.

Thanks for the advice. Hope to get up there soon and give it a shot. Ride by it all the time on the FJR, but the WR is feeling abandoned. I read the old posts; don't worry about me diggin trenches. Not enough balls or horsepower.:rofl
