Yeah.. even if 4-5 of them comes loose there is still 15-16 holding the bike!
Tie down 101...
Soft ties, great for getting attachment point where it NEEDS to be, and almost necessity if you've got wiring on handle bars. The cheapo Moose jobs at bottom are fine for dirtbike. Use heavy jobbies for Dollars new 1090 on BQE...
Buy quality tie downs... Most of the stuff you find at Home depot, Lowes or whatever are rated for way more than what we need in terms of web strength, but the hardware is crap... And some are polyethylene material - not nylon. Try using that home depot tie down as an emergency tow strap... Will break towing a quad.
Beta Branded on left not bad with built-in soft tie (I don't like integrated soft tie), right side is cheapo used only for initial positioning on fork brace.
If it don't say ANCRA on it, make sure you trust it before using it...
Closed or Open hooks; Once you have a strap get unhooked, you'll understand the importance of closed hook. You're probably like; "how the f' can that think get unhooked when I had it so tight??" Answer: you're not using a fork brace and got all that suspension travel, and the trailers flex like hell also, and you just went through a stretch of road like BQE at 75 with caravan of whacko female minivan drivers on your butt. If you've got some nice open hook stuff like these do what the I-Man said, use tape or wire to close hook... This even more important in closed trailer. You loose it in enclosed and find out down the line... Oh my...
With about one rev of webbing on spool, these tie downs won't move and with high quality nylon webbing stretch is minimal when wet. Don't wind too much webbing on spool or ratchet pawl interference can occur.
And if you're not using one of these (can be easily fashioned to custom length by sistering 2 pcs of 2X4)... Well...think about 2strokes earlier explanation...
If you're running like 10psi in the tire, you should be squashing the sidewall like halfway to rim with this think...
I was using ratchet straps!
With open hooks...
on another note- remember back when Marco was deciding on whether to have the DS on either 12-3 or 12-10?
Damn- talk about getting lucky on that one- this Sunday will be a calming 34 degrees ! It would have been last year all over again.
God is with us my friends ! (well with me, the rest of you fucks are on your own)
The first weekend of December also works best because it is the one weekend between thanksgiving and Christmas most people will be available and less stressed from both holidays.

That's always been my practice, NO kickstand down, but the Dealer suggested to leave the kick stand down to help stabilize the tall 500lbs. It was mostly highway miles and smooth roads home that day.
I watched the 1090 on the way home like a new born baby in the back seat---I'll tell you what, the kickstand down made the bike more stable than my KTM 350 after hitting pot holes....
The bike was tied down firm without the kick stand down first, then the kickstand was lowered and had little presuure on it. The only reason I can think of that's bad is you could wear out or break the kickstand mounting point.
I would never do this on a lighter bike, not necassary, and I'll come up with a better method on the 1090---but bike will only see a trailer again if it's either broke or shipped out West.
Fuck ratchet streps. Get dem pro tapers and never look back.
Kickstand down? Never.
Go strepless and get a ADDABIKE
Making enough money to have my gov take more money out of each check to cover my mortgage cable and PPL bill.
So I only have time to buy motorcycles gas guns and ammo.
I went with Cycra, I don't like the swivel carabineer base hook---straight carabineer looks stronger....
They look fine. I do love the swivel carabiners though.
Straps may wear out before carabineers but the carabineers are easily replaced on Cycra.
