I have a really beat up r75/5 barn find and the more I see custom BMW pix the more inspired I get.
Rear fender? What about the front fender on most all of the bikes in this thread. Fenders are the tip of the iceberg. I look at these bikes and wonder why most of them have a big giant front tire that makes them handle like crap. I know. It's to make them look like flat trackers but the only reason why flat trackers run front tires like that is because they have to for the rules. It goes back to saving money by not having to buy different front and rear tires.
Most of the high pipes you could get by with sitting down but stand up and lean back like you always have to do in the dirt and they are going to roast your calf(s). I have to take off my lift handle for it bruising my leg horribly while riding in the dirt. At least it wasn't burning hot!
We have some lookers and some doers here. The great thing is that the doers can out look the lookers if done right.
+1 Some great looking bikes being shown but I have only seen a couple that I would trust in the dirt and in my opinion a true scrambler is meant to be ridden both street and dirt and not just look pretty.

What I have posted is a bunch of pics of some builders (and some amateurs) to try show what is out there and inspire people with their builds. I know for a fact that some of the bikes of Boxerschmiede were tested by Chris Pfeiffer ... The bikes on BMWbayer, I have tried and are sweet and handle nicely. Many of the others are just pics that I have found on the web when is cold and I'm bored...(not a lot of money to go out these days and have 4 kids, can't find a job to go back to FL)
In my case, I realize that it was a mistake to have ordered the same tire for front and back. I did it because I was hoping for a bobber look, but I have now ordered a smaller tire.
I don't know if I'm a looker or a doer...I'm just trying to build a bike and have some fun. And in this forum, I'm just trying to learn from some of you to do my build properly.

Same here guzzitoco. No harm intended. Just like a lot of "custom" bikes, a lot of the bikes in this thread are fun to laugh at. I have always appreciated creative stupid. It's better than just stupid most of the time.
I have a high front guard now,it was just a matter of getting around to it....no front guard is illegal here.Like a speedway track,gravel roads give their best traction when wet,you need a front guard to ride them wet.
Everyone has their own take on handling,I know everyone loves the airhead,but I find them an understeering bike,nervous when pushed and run wide.The big front tyre means I can push the front much harder,my entry and corner speeds are higher,and I can choose my exit line.I don't have a problem with adapting the bike to my needs,others may find the handling ghastly,but it inspires so much more confidence in me than the stock set up.

Some oldies...but they show a progression...
1) 1964: Sebastian Nachtmann wins on a R 69S in the German championship in the class 500cc
2) 1966: Kurt Tweesmann on his R 69S
Having had spread in the motorcycling scene, the impression was that the R-69S needed a new engine. This hope remained unfulfilled. In the same year BMW ended racing activities.
Three years later, BMW presented a new model range.
4) 1969: The models of the / 5 series are a complete new design with light metal cylinders. Frame and chassis come from the factory off-road equipment.
Based on the R 75 / 5 1970 BMW created the design study "Streetscrambler".
3) 1971:Herbert Schek wins on the R 75 / 5 off-road version of the German championship.
5) 1975: BMW starts the development department to build a series Enduro. The experimental prototype, nicknamed "Red Devil ".
Richard Schalber wins on the more developed "GS 80", the German Cup.
Whether they are true scramblers or just for pretty, there are some great ideas incorporated into the bikes.

Although GS's are already based on a R65, I think an actual R65 is a much better platform to start with. Those narrower cylinders and a bit less weight make all the difference.
