And then there were 4! A friend of mine, who is also the owner of a local motorcycle custom shop here in Raleigh called me up on December 31st and asked me if I was interested in buying another 97 EFI Sport 1100? Needless to say, I bought me my 4th Sport 1100...... But, this bike was sitting for seven years, so she will need a little work to get her going again. She will need new tires, new wind screen, new mirrors, new clutch and brake levers, a new battery, a good tuneup, fuel system cleaned, and her previous owner cut the front tire fender off, so I also must replace that piece. I't a good thing that the purchase cost of this bike reflected those issues.

I'd never heard of shaft-jacking, and had to look it up. I'd never thought of the bike as doing that, but now that I think about it, that may be the reason why I have a really hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd at redline...it just feels super weird in 1st gear at that rpm.

Folks get used to shaft-jacking. Every shaft driven bike is prone to the effect. Heck, ever drive a manual transmission light pick-up truck, like a Toyota? In those you can feel the effect. I've heard it referred as "gear climb" as well. The BMW guys like Reg Pridmore used to road race with that going on.

Something of racing interest for the CX500--Honda took a CX500 engine and turned it sideways in a frame for flat track racing. Once sideways, they were able to adapt a chain drive for the rear wheel.
