Nice set up Runeo - I see you have the pillion pegs on your HP2... how has your pillion found being on the back of the HP2? I'm lucky enough to have a GF who wants to ride on the back of my Dakar... if I swap to an HP2 I wonder if she will stop wanting to ride on the back

I was on crutches for a while after the deer slayer incident...that fucker bled out on the road, so I came out better than him! Overall, I was pretty lucky. I'll probably be wearing knee braces from now on while riding offroad though.
Insurance paid off a little bit of my bike loan, that helped pay medical bills and got me a few neat bits for the bike...I still haven't put on my relaced dirt wheels from Woodie's yet though.
I did all the work myself except painting the frame and recovering the seat- BTW-Renazco Racing did an excellent job!
Here's the frame to my $20K motorcycle in the back of my $300.00 car...
I shudder to think what it would cost to pay a shop to do a complete tear-down just to paint the frame...it took me something like 4 months of evenings and weekends! Of course I was in an arm sling for a month of that due to shoulder surgery. Total PITA, but at least I can ride now (very gently).

It is almost as tight as on a sportsbike. Just bougt it to be able to help friends out who, who get a "out of order bike" on a gravel run.

I do really like the Adv.. I just can't see me playing in the dirt as much with it as I would with the HP2. Besides, she only comes across the pond 4/5 times a year... I could just buy her an Airhawk instead

These are strange comments, coming from you, since you use a motorcycle for everything but what it is actually designed for? I'm sure you've already got a multiple bike rack designed in your head for an HP2.
But Ithink you got it wrong. I'm betting marketing came up with the SM rim option. Engineering would have given Behr the specifications required for the SM rims but marketing would have come up with the rationale for the rims: current market trends and increasing sales of an extremely expensive niche machine. Sounds exactly like a marketing initiative.
The HP2 is still a BMW and it still retains BMW's versatility. In the early part of this season I've done an enduro course, a track day school, two track days and a couple weekend tours on and off-road. I'm hitting two rallies this weekend (Friday the 13th and the CVMG) and then another trackday on Monday.

On day two of Rawhydes Adventure Challange this last weekend I rolled over a pile of logs at the end of a section and my skidplate clipped the top of the logs. I wasn't going fast, nor did I hit the logs all that hard, but the rigid mounted skidplate knocked two holes in the bottom of the engine at the rear mounting holes. Mike from BMW of San Diego loaned me his HP2 to finish the day on, and I drove home friday night and picked up my other HP2 so that I could finish the event on saturday. Pete from BMW of Ventura County is checking on getting this repaired under warranty. Some of the HP2s came from the factory with rigid mounts as this one did, and the factory has sent out a service bulletin to the dealers telling them to replace the rigid mounts with rubber ones when the bikes come in for service.
Go out to your garage right now and check to see that the two rear holes in your skidplate are connected to the engine via rubber mounts. If you see shiny aluminum spacers between the skidplate and the engine, tell your dealer to change them out for rubber ones.
Jim Hyde put on a great event this last weekend. It was great riding, good food. lots of nice people, vendors with cool stuff and tons of interesting bikes to look at. If you have never done anything with Rawhyde Adventures, you should check out his web site and join in on one of his events.
