So, I am cleaning the garage up a bit, raining and all needed something to do, and I came across the two "cup" deals for the lower leading edge of the Fuel Tank. These are the TT units..

Now, I doubt I would have paid for them especially after seeing what they cost, but figured since I had 'em, and I already scratched the tank a bit in that area (moving crap around the garage like my daughter's bikes) I'd put 'em on.

I know I read somewhere that someone suggested double sided auto tape. My worry is crap like sand or dirt getting behind them and sitting there to scratch/rust.

So, anyone who has 'em mounted and isn't afraid to publish a pic, describing how they did it and with what, I'd appreciate it.

OR, if someone thinks I should just skip 'em, voice that to.

Thanks. BUMP for a great thread!

Ragin Rabbi, this is a picture thread not a tech thread. If you got a question about tank guards why not post it in a thread about tank guards? Why post it here? Try THIS ONE instead.

Its a 2003 1150GS Sport (the one with the low ratio gears) but also has the twin spark heads, it has just 27K miles with one previous super attentive and fastidious owner, it has a fair amount of Touratech farkles, full service history with a recent service at Irv Seaver's here in Orange County and to put it bluntly, I am bloody well chuffed!

Hope you're glad you documented how gorgeous it looks right now. Really nicely farked out. But it can only go in one direction from here so hold onto those pics. A year from now you can look at them and say "Oh, man, didn't it look great back then?"

Maybe, but my last GS, a 2005 R1200GS, I paid $11K for, rode it around 50 states, Canada, Mexico, used it to train students at the BMW Off Road Academy, put 53K miles on it (not kind either, I rode it hard) and when I sold it it was better detailed than when I bought it and I got $10,900 back for it. Who knows how this one will wind up? Either way I got a storming deal on this bike and it will get loved, but it will also be ridden in the manner it was designed for, I'm not into garage queen bikes. :D

Are the lower gear ratios due to the final drive or the trans? I'm not familiar with the details on the Sport model. If it's the FD that's different, what's the ratio?

    Thanks, and sweet looking bike!

Hey TC, the deal is that they used the same gearbox as the ADV model but the info is a bit fuzzy. Some people say it got the lower first and 6th gears of the ADV model, others say it is just the 6th gear that isn't the overdrive. I can confirm that this thing has a fairly low first gear but on the freeway it feels great in 6th and still pulls like a train when you twist the throttle. For it's weight, I'm kinda pleased how quick it is in traffic as it will see a lot of LA commuting as well as various "adventures".
