The TTR225 is a dog, you're right! I know someone who had one and said it was VERY slow in sand washes, no power at all. He rode it a few times and got rid of it, he was so disappointed in the bike.

I have a 2001 TTR250 and it has lots of power and is like a tractor going up steep hills. The TTR250s have way less suspension, unfortunately, compared to WRs, but TTR250s are super-reliable and don't break down. Can't go wrong with an air-cooled bike!

I installed the kickstarter kit in mine, Acerbis Rally-Pro hand guards, a heavy-duty skid plate, Trailtech speedometer, FMF pipe, better handlebars, Dual-Star mirrors, Garmin GPS and RAM mount, roll chart holder, Baja Designs kit, and dual sported it. With my front and rear fender bags and number plate bag, it now weighs about 305 pounds. It's a bear to pick up when I fall over! However, getting rid of the stock odometer and stock muffler saved a LOT of weight.

It has taken me on a lot of organized District 37 dual sport rides, through three years of District 37 racing :eek1, and it still works just fine. :D

I am about to start a similar build for my wife. We are doing the COBDR in July, and she wants to take a small light bike, so we are going to do much of what you did, plus the BBR150cc big bore kit. My wife is 5'2" and loves her TTR for trail riding. Now that did the LABV ride with this what do you think of the TTR for such rides?

It will do great you might even consider talking the CDT instead of the COBDR more dirt trail less gravel road
Tho I'm riding the COBDR in in late July as well
