I followed up on my order with Twisted Throttle yesterday on the phone. I ordered the first generation Trax cases. It seems they were out of "rights" (or "lefts) and asked me if I wanted the second-gen "Evo" cases for $10 more, as they were both in stock and ready to ship.

Apparently, they look the same and have the same dimensions, but the hinges and latches have been upgraded, and the logo is stamped into the side instead of a rivited-on plate.

For my trouble, they threw in free shipping, so I saved $46 bucks! :clap

Woo-hoo! Way to go Twisted Throttle! (I love those guys!) :freaky

I have the 1.5-1st Gen Trax cases (in the picture) and they leak. The 2nd-1st Gen came with the corners sealed during manufacture and some report they still get some leakage. The latest Evo cases have a single piece lip/seal/channel rather than the multipiece of the 1st gen cases. They 2nd Gen Evo cases also have upgraded lock/latches. I'm in the process of passing my current Trax set to my son for his Wee Strom and I'm going to replace them with a 2nd Gen/Evo set later this summer. You did well with the upgrade!

    Hey ag_streak,
Thanks for the compliment. I wasn't impressed with the available racks so I built it myself. I get a kick out of fabricating parts and with the rack I used the same diameter tubing as the bikes trellis so that if I took the boxes off, the rack would blend into the bikes frame as much as possible. The tubing is 3/4" OD with a .090 wall thickness. The cases are Seahorse SE 720 which I purchased from seahorsecases.com for $48.00 and come with a lifetime guarantee. I called this company when I ordered the cases and they were very professional and shipped the cases promptly.
    Ciao

    VanIslandRider,

Amazingly slick rack fabrication skillz, dude! Fantastic!

At first I thought the long horizontal pieces extending back would be unsupported and vulnerable to vertical forces, and I thought you needed to triangulate the joint. But then I realized the case itself provides the resistance to bending! Brilliant!

I really think you're on to something important there, because Givi and SW-Moteck are no longer recommending both side and top cases be mounted at the same time, due to the Versys subframe.

Your design isolates the weight of the cases from the subframe supporting the seat and tail section! It concentrates the stresses down low by the footpegs! That is REALLY slick!!

    Thanks ag_streak
The photo dosen't show the two seat stays I fabricated but I thought that some lateral support would be nice so I fab'ed up stays from the rear most bolt of the grab handle down to the upper rear portion of the rack. Very stable! I also fab'ed up tail light extensions this weekend. I will post pics if there is interest later this week.

I have done a bunch of mods and was thinking of creating a thread to bring together a bunch of ideas that may be helpful to others, a way to give back for all the info I have used from others that have posted.
