"A startup out of Russia has ideated a helmet with a HUD that claims to solve all your navigation needs.

LiveMap's helmet looks more like the lovechild of a Simpson racing lid and fighter pilot helmet, than a traditional motorcycle helmet. The company says it will be slightly bigger than your average helmet but its carbon fiber construction will keep it relatively light at just 2.2 pounds. That's the hope, at least. By projecting a transparent image onto the visor, the rider doesn't have to look down at their phone or GPS, or up into a corner like with Glass. It's very much like the HUDs on fighter pilot helmets."

As a former pilot I've been hoping someone would develop this technology for the motorcycle market. I thought it would be Microsoft or Garmin in collaboration with the helmet mfg. industry...but Russians??? I guess the Soviet Union collapse produced some capitalists after all!:huh

Cool beans! Luxotica is a Milan Italy based company that now owns Oakley, Ray-Ban, and others. Still no US companies in the running to my knowledge.

The Oakley Airwave is actually the Recon Snow unit mated to an Oakley goggle. The Snow can mate to other goggles as well. Recon is working on a similar HUD for glasses for cycling/running/outdoor, that looks like it could almost fit into a helmet. :evil
