~ Wanderlust to the Sunshine State...

First off, I’m writing this RR so family and friends can follow my progress while I’m out on this wanderlust. It’s also meant to record my adventures so I can later recount the good times when I finally hang my adventure jacket for the last time. Lastly, to pay-it-forward for all the great information I’ve found in this ADV community…

With that said, I’ve got that urge for another adventure ride and will be leaving this coming weekend. I live in Southern California and have ridden up through the Pacific Northwest into Alaska for my 50th birthday. This time my wanderlust will take me southeast into Florida in my quest to ride in all four corners of these United States and whatever journeys that lay ahead…

    Some background to my wanderlust:

I’ve been retired for two and a half years now. One of the things that helps pass the time these days is going on adventure rides and wrenching on the bikes. I try to strike that balance between family time and me time to keep the Mrs. sane by not getting in her OODA Loop. As the adage goes “happy wife happy life”. Conversely, she considers herself a motorcycle widow and refers to my bikes as my mistresses. We’ve ridden two-up along the Pacific Coast Highway stopping for breakfast at sidewalk Cafe’s in Encinitas to spark her interest. I even offered to buy her a bike so we could ride together but no such luck. Although she has no interest, she has always supported my motorcycle habit.

Wrenching on the KLR for her next adventure…

How I pass the time with day trips in SoCal…
    800_4517.jpg

The plan…. there is none. Just a general idea to point the front wheel east and end up in the Sunshine State…

I have some last minute maintenance items and pre-ride checks to do on the bike which should be easy peasy….. Still finalizing the load out for my multi-week ride and trying to keep it light at around 75lbs of gear. I’ll be camping the majority of the way and getting into a hotel every third day or so to get cleaned up from the road…

    Cheers inmates…

Thanks Victor, I've had that itch to get back on the road and early spring is a great time to get into Florida before the heat/humidity comes...

I followed your last RR, and will be along for this one as well. If you make it into central Georgia, give me a shout. I'll buy you lunch or dinner.

    Hi,
I am in Charleston SC. I have space and tools. We have several projects going, but if the timing works out I can probably provide a bedroom, etc.
If interested keep me posted on your proposed ETA when you have one.

:rofl:rofl We went to different schools together and my lovely bride refers to my bikes as "The Machine". We've celebrated a few extra birthdays and her knees are no longer happy with two wheel ergonomics, but 100% supportive of my life long motorcycle addiction. Adds to the enjoyment and I only wish she could be with me to enjoy the scenery and people met along the way.

    Anyway, safe travels and subscribed!

Jim (duckman44) and I maybe headed for Pikes Peak in June. Don't know how close you are from there.

Keep me posted...it's 2ish hours away but totally do-able and depending on your route from there we might be able to make something happen. Might be a good idea to check when the Pikes Peak Int'l Hillclimb will be held this year- it's usually in June but I don't know the exact dates.

A shout out to @bobw for directing me to the Moto Guzzi Stelvio (merged) threadfest... and to the inmates in that thread for contributing the wealth of knowledge for DIY fixes to some of the goose's quirkiness. :thumb
