    Hey Kenyans,

There are a bunch of bikers in Dar who have crisscrossed this country's backroads and off-the-beaten tracks. Some of these have been recorded on GPS, and they've been photographed and jawed about in ride reports (see sig line). If you're riding South sometime, give me a shout. We recently went around Kili and had a hell of a good time. It was fabulous on the scramblers (400 - 525s) but good long chunks would have been great for the bigger thumpers too (650s - 990s). We're happy to share tracks...

I'm always trying to convince the guys to organize a trip to Kenya. I rode all over Kenya on a Dakar in 2003/4, but would really enjoy going back on my smaller XR 400 for the little tracks, sand and stones... especially with inside biker knowledge to guide me. Maybe we could put together a bike trip exchange or something...

A few pics from my 2003/04 adventure... couldn't resist. I loved riding in Kenya!

    Guys,

Check this out we have this setup going - www.motoadvkenya.com and on Facebook\motoadvkenya - though still in its infancy we are trying to make ADV riding a staple in EAfrica. For rentals we do have your GS,and KTM thumpers as wells as KLRs - and riding, camping gear and well as a support vehicle and Mechanic.

As a first maybe an exchange of contacts (emails or phone numbers) would be a start then we could network from there and plan something soon. My number 0701029589 - thanks

    Hi Kenya!

Where do you guys get your tyres from? I'm passing through Kenya on the way up from South Africa next year and it would be very usefull to pick up a tyre in Kenya as it's halfway. That would save me hauling an extra tyre for thousands of km. I would need a 130/80 17 knobbly.
Any of you guys been on the Turkana route recently?

    Hi,

I'm in Nanyuki and heading over to Gilgil in a couple of weeks time. Has anyone ridden through the Aberdares? Is it allowed? Is it safe from the animal point of view?

    Any info very welcome

    Cheers

    Hi Ed

Thanks for that. I got an e-mail back from KWS. You're right they don't allow bikes anymore even to transit the park (glad Mt Kenya NP haven't been told yet!) I'll need to have a rethink and may head north via Rumuruti and down into the Rift that way before trekking south. With the rain we're having at present I can imagine the Aberdares are pretty grim. I fancy visiting the Mukutan Gorge up near Baringo. Someone says there's a track into it..............

Had a rethink and actually came back through the Aberdares NP by 4x4. The gate guards told me that bikes could pass if they were in a group and had a "chase car" in case an elephant got frisky. So it looks like its maybe a goer.

Love seeing all the ADV riders in the Kenya area.

You might enjoy this group on Facebook... https://www.facebook.com/groups/AMDiaries/

A buddy of mine is getting married in a month, so before we send him off to America to do the deed, we thought we'd have one last good ride. We'll be going overnight this weekend from Nairobi to Lake Baringo via Gilgil and Nyahururu Falls. We have a decent number of bikes of all kinds going, mostly 600-650s. Hondas, BMWs, Yamaha, old and new. Should be a fun ride. I hope to get some good video and post something up, when I have time to edit it.

Great time to Lake Buringo last weekend. We ended up taking a VERY long route around Ngong hills and then up through the Falls and down the backside of the rim. Lots of fun, hard riding. 11.5hrs in the saddle the first day, mostly off-road. Straight road 4hrs on the way home :) Not to fun, but we were all whipped and ready to be home. Total of about 250 miles off-road and 150 on road. A few pics from the rim on opposite sides of the valley...

One bike didn't make it home, a Yamaha 600, after hitting a speed bump at 120km/h and shattering some important parts.
