In 2018 i am thinking of doing London to Ulan bator via Russia with the intention of leaving the bike at a friends place in Ulan bator so i can return 8-9 months later and head south for the second leg through Asia.

    Q. Does anyone have any experience of leaving Mongolia without the vehicle they arrived on ?

looking at other threads it seems that its hit and miss weather you can leave without your bike or not so I'm thinking of reverse engineering this trip and shipping my bike to Ulaan Bator so i can fly out to collect it then ride it back to the UK.
Any advice re shipping companys crates or documentation gratefully received ?

So i have communicated with the Mongolian embassy and here is what they have said:

    Dear *******

If i ride from UK to MGL then fly back to the UK

Q1. Can i leave the country by air while the bike is shipped back to the UK ?

    Yes, you can

Q2. Can i leave the motorbike in MGL to do the return trip at a later date and if this is possible how long can the bike remain in MGL.

You cannot leave the motorbike in Mongolia. You have to ship it before you leave the country.

If i ship the bike to MGL then fly out to meet it when it arrives and ride it back to the UK.

Q3. If this is possible what documents and administration does the motorbike require in order to be shipped into MGL.

    Answer will follow later on.

    Best regards,

    Visa officer

The next step is finding an experienced courier that operates to and from the UK and MGL and to save me hours and hours of searching this is where I'm hoping this forum will come into it own.
So do any of you lovely people know of any companys that provide this sort of service or have any idea of costing ???

There is one Central Asian country you can leave your bike and leave the country and I think it is Tajikistan, try contacting this chap. http://muztoo.ch/en/

Hi Mark thanks for the reply.
It's a bit off route but good to know thanks for passing on the details.

I have had a quote for air freight to or from Ulaan Bator-London.
    £2650.
It's worth considering but I'm also looking into rail freight to Irkutsck in Russia to kick things off as it may work out a lot cheaper. Just not sure where I can start that haulage from ?. Any top tips on that would be greatly received.
