OK, there is an '04, 950 for sale locally, Silver, low front fender, and has hard bags on it. I think it has about 40K miles on it. I think it's close to 100% stock with few if any aftermarket upgrades. What should I be looking for, (issues pertaining to this model/year in particular), if I go look at this bike. I've somewhat lusted after the 950/990 for years but never pulled the trigger for various reasons.

This bike can be had for $3,800 or maybe a bit less. I'm a little gun shy of the real early models as I had read that they had various issues and since this one appears to be pretty much all original I'm not sure some of the issues have been addressed. In other words, it's not like it's been blinged up addressing these issues.

Any thoughts about what to look for on this particular model year would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

These bikes are so much fun, the notion of picking one up for a meager $3,800 just makes me go...

You can check here for service history and outstanding recalls http://www.ktm.com/service/safety-check/ - rear break upgrade etc.

    Loads of info here: http://www.ktm950.info/

On the early models the rear fender will rub the inside of the swing arm, sometimes severely - easy fix though.

    I did 20000 uneventful km's on my 2004 - sweet bike !

    Good luck :-)

Don't think there's been many "uneventful" kms on mine! Great bike though. "eventful" in a good way!:-):-)
