    I have taken the next step in adventure riding.

    I'm looking at a 2000 R1150GS with DMC
    r Sidecar with camber /tilt control.

    It will be sold with extra side of wheels , final drive and
    shaft. Being looked over by my mechanic now.


    My long term plans are to take it to Alaska in a couple of years after the 2nd full knee is fully healed. Advantage or disadvantages?

    Hard to tell for sure from those three pics, but it looks like there's a 15-inch car wheel on the sidecar and the OEM BMW rear wheel on the bike. First thing I'd do is switch 'em.

    Then show us a close-up of the struts connecting the car to the bike. There was a design change involving the front upper strut--if you have the "old" style connection you'll probably want to get that retro-fitted to the new design before going to Alaska before that strut fails.

    How's it steer? If it steers heavy, consider a trail reduction mod to the forks.

    Have the shocks been upgraded? Stock shocks work OK but they need the springs to be upgraded to a much heavier rate.

    Again, hard to see from the pics, and kinda an obvious one, but you need a skid plate before hitting the rough stuff.

    I have updated pictures on Tues. I was concern about the shocks and the trail. I catching up eurotech build and might incorporate some of his mods into the rig.

    Looks like the tire on the sidecar is the stardard rim from DMC

    Will know more on Tuesday

    You could consider getting inmate Stroker's front wheel instead of a trail mod. It has a similar steering improvement as the trail mod while also providing dramatic improvements in handling and wear.

    You'll need a fairly low final drive 34/11 or better yet 37/11 and if your young enough for a total knee, some sort of steering mod most likely. It may be a good start but these things tend to be a several year project or if cost is no problem you go see one of the big guys and get your wallet an enema, but it speeds the plow.
    And now the warning :these damn things are not motorcycles !
    But they are allot of fun, try it you make think its great.DB

    You might want to try to find a way to secure the loose paper towels. They could fall off and become a sight hazard for a following vehicle. May I suggest something form the Martha Stewart Collection?

    Having made hundereds of these, I do not remember this bike specificly. I can tell in the photo's that it does not have steering modifications nor of course the interchangeble rear wheel conversion. This is one of our earlier sidecars, our racks and such that we make will fit this. On your way to Alaska if you want to stop by we do free saftey inspections.

    I have talked to the seller and understand what the history
    and what comes with the side car. Next is to take it out after it
    has been serviced.

    It is coming with a FD from a R1100GS not sure what the ratio is yet .. I'm hoping for a 37:11 but I have a FD from a R1100RS that has a 34:11 that could be installed.

    Either way.. I think I'm a pretty strong buyer at this point. I also comes with the tilt levering but I have to install. There are a few things I would do
    at the same time since it is at the shop. I will do the front end mod. Simple enough and I have located a A arm and top triple .

    I'm leaning toward doing away with the ABS and I might look into
    secondary brake on the sidecar.

    I had a trailer once that I installed electric brakes on and they worked great. Not sure how this would work.

    The final drive will be a 33/11 the 34 will be better, on the none power brake abs's removing the abs isn't such a pain, but will require some different brake lines and or routing and possibly removing some warning light bulbs from the dash,an electric brake would be a cool project if you know about such things.Good luck.DB
