Another vote for Shorai. It has been in my 950 for 9 months, and cranks strong every time (on trickle charge during winter months).

    http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/48/77/227/730/5453/33653/Ballistic-EVO2-Battery

Ballistic Performance Component Batteries use the latest, state of the art lithium ferrous energy storage technology available to provide you with a smaller, lighter, higher energy battery. Each Ballistic Performance Component Battery is assembled by hand in the USA using computer designed custom proprietary cells, cases, and hardware. As a result, Ballistic Performance Component Batteries will provide more energy out of a smaller package while requiring almost no regular maintenance and under most conditions a longer service life than existing lead acid batteries. All covered by an industry leading manufacture 3 year warranty. The EVO2 Battery is significantly smaller and lighter than the OEM battery. Supplied with foam in the packaging to make up the difference between the size of the battery and the size of the OEM battery box, but some modification may still be required.
    Features
-The 8 Cell model will work with everything from 450cc MX bikes to 1000cc multi-cylinder motorcycles
-Has more starting punch than 90% of all the powersports lead-acid batteries available
-The 8 Cell EVO2 Battery weighs a little over 1.5lbs
-Up to 80% smaller than the stock battery
-Hard mounted brass terminals for a direct replacement installation
-Completely “dry” technology so batteries can be mounted in any direction
    -Non-toxic and recyclable
-Impact and water resistant, no special charger required and no trickle charger required

There some other vendors with this battery. Ebay has them for 149 shipped

I have had one in my 690 for a year plus (8 cell). Just received another in the mail that will go in my 950 (12 cell) this weekend. I'll let you know how it performs come next week.

FYI - this is the same battery (maybe diff size) that Neduro used in his 450 for the Dakar. They are a tough battery that weighs next to nothing.

Everstart is the brand name. Delph and Exide both manufacture for Everstart.

I was in a pinch and needed a battery,,, figured for the price, if it crapped out prematurely I wasn't out that much.

I'm gonna be a lot more interested in these new-fangled batteries a few years from now if they're still going strong. Until then...I'll stick to a known quantity.

    Agree.

I was an early adopter on LiFePO batteries and it bit me in the ass.

Sticking with AGM batteries for the forseeable future.

Shorai's come with foam with adhesive to make them fit good and tight. Don't worry it'll fit good and tight and you'll be saving 8-10 lbs.

    Yep,

Plenty of foam to keep it from moving around. Some pics of how we install them here:
