Yes Folks! It's that time again. Time for Bad Creek to open up to traffic other than hikers! I am planning a trip for Sept. 18-20th and
this will be the sign up thread. Eight of us ran this trail back in April and had a T-Total BLAST! See the link to the RR here:
    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=455860
. Duke Power's Bad Creek Project is located in Oconee County, eight miles north of Salem, South Carolina.

We can meet up at the Parking Lot at Duke Power's Bad Creek Project.

This trail is very exciting and not overly challenging. Big bikes like the KLR and smaller bikes like the Sherpa feel at home and knobbies are optional as seen on my KTM. :evil

I am planning on camping at Keowee-Toxaway State Park. They have a really nice facility and the arrangement of campsites Bernard and
I stayed at last time would make a great group camp.
*Please, I don't mind folks having a beer after the ride, but if you plan on getting wasted, this isn't the ride for you.

Nice, soft, sand tent pads or plenty of trees for hangin' hammocks if you're like me.

Schedule is flexible so if the weekend of the 18th isn't good for most, we can move it to the 25-27th. I should be arriving around 7:00ish in the PM on Friday and will head back to Blenheim mid to late Sunday. There is plenty more riding available in the area from curvy blacktop, backcountry roads, and more trails like Horse Pasture Road. As seen here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=450805&highlight=horse+pasture+road

Is it true that Major Lewis Redmond is going to be the grand marshall for the ride?

All joking aside. If you get over by the horsepasture way and are looking for a good place for lunch, yoders at meeces mill will be open on that Sat
    http://www.scmills.com/yoders.php

Also they will be having a fiddling convention over at Haygood mill on sat also.

I'd like to make it up there this year, its been 2 years since I was up that way. If it was not so close to the sc shindig event I would be up for joining in.

There has been some more trails very similar discovered out near Bad Creek in Gorges State Park. There is about 35+- miles worth all very similar to Bad Creek. In fact, there is a gate at the end of one of the Gorges trails that corresponds to a gate at the end of a Bad Creek trail. Some folks around here were told by a forest ranger (who rides a KLR) to ride Gorges while you can, because he doesn't forsee it being opened for long. I will definitely try to make one of those weekends while it is open to ride.

Rob, should not be a problem with the MT90s. I was running Kenda K761s on the last trip and didn't have a problem at all.

Knobbies would be helpful but they are not required to get through this trail. :freaky Wes

Is this mostly gravel? I'd like to attent it but I still have the stock Dunlops on my Versys. I've been hitting the local gravel and I haven't had any problems yet but it's all flat.

Prophead, I would probably say, no, not a good idea to try and tackle bad creek on street tires. Like I said before, I did the previous trip with the Kendas but they do provide a little more bite than streeties. The first hill after the pipe bridge is quite a challenge but pails in comparison to the downhill/uphill section at the lake lunch spot. There were other sections that were muddy/sandy/gravely but the uphill/downhill sections are where I would be concerned about dumping a sweet Versys. :dunno

and waiting on confirmation from Bbasso:lurk

Marty is posting up on KLR650.net to see if GreenRiverRider and Michelle want to ride again or anyone else from over there that would like to join us.

Anyone thinking about camping fri. or sat. night at Keowee-Toxaway SP? Cheers, Wesley

For what its worth. I think there will be a bunch of DS riders at Blue Ridge M/C camp that weekend. Likely some will end up at Bad Creek.

Groovy. I guess I'll have to wait until I wear off enough of my Dunlops to justify a pair of Shinko 705s.
