Had mine out around the block last Saturday testing some electronics and stuff. It was also my first time on the bike. Freakin' awesome !!!! I still need to break it in before I can do a serious ride. My initial accel/decel "Motoman" break-in may be slightly annoying to others :D

I was out to on Sunday for a short ride after getting the bike out of winter storage.

Thanks for the call deadly99. It would have still been sitting covered and i would not have gotten of my ass to get it running for the spring.

Going to be a good year me thinks

I'm just waiting on my raingear from BikeBandit and warmer weather. As soon as overnight temps reach 3 degrees, this becomes my going to work vehicle (shift work). Can't really see ice at 1:30 in the morning. The wife can hardly wait to keep the car.

Shipwrek, how do you like your Drz400? I am considering one for next year. Do you get along with the 5 speed? I read most people would like 6 choices instead. Personally, I think one adapts. Did you modify the suspension? Do you need to?
There's nothing like a personalized bike review. :D

6 speed would be great, never touched the suspension as not sure why I would. I don't have that much experience to tell the difference. it still goes boing when I go over bumps. yes you can bottom it out going over jumps but I guess you didn't land right if you did bottom it out.

10 L tank got dumped as soon as I figured out, when I got to where I was going I was out of gas. 150km or so. big tanks are top heavy but I can deal with it. clark tanks fits better than IMS. piles of after market stuff for it.

my bike 01 has approx 27000+ km on it. runs great. I run it into the rev limiter every now and then. if it doesn't have a limiter on it. then the valves float.. no problems. everyone thinks its too tall, I'm OK on it. 6ft+. there is linkages to make it shorter.

I'd change the sprockets if you were to single track alot. it is a bit heavy for single track especially if riding with orange stuff. I don't mind the seat but it is 8 years old and broken in well, but I'd buy a new seat if new.

I did the Paris dacre 800km in one day, last year with 3 drz400's. absolutely no problem on any of them. years were 01/04/ and 08.

I grew up on a 1977yamaha DT400 and compared to that I'm in heaven.
over all I'll give it 8-10, wishing for 6 speed and more horse power. I would consider a new one if this ever breaks beyond repair. I'm waiting for this to become a 450Fuel Injected bike with 6 speed. should be any year now!!:evil I could buy a bmw 450 with a scheduled engine rebuild but that I'm not into. Drive until it breaks with maintenance.

    hows DAT?

Thanks Shipwrek. I don't know if you did me a favor though. Now I don't want to wait till next year. It sounds like my kind of machine. Low maintenance, light, fun, modifiable...
Gawd, now I need two bikes. One for fun and another just for fun.:D
What???? Know of anybody that has a bike that's no fun?

bet ya you could bang it down to 3500 after you knock the tire, sprockets and what ever else you see!:evil you would still need a bunch of other stuff to keep it safe--skid plate, lever guards(bark busters) case guards rad guards to say the least.... that conversion might help your price???? Most used drz's should come with that stuff, that one has nothing. $4k price is too high.

Let's see what comes out in the fall and winter. Prices drop when the snow flies. It's not like I'm stuck riding a bicycle. Must...be ...patient.

    hi all,

looking for 4/5/6 people to proof ride this track/route, pm me if your seriously interested. Big bikes can do this but you better know how to ride and accept the possible brusies. Nobbies required, Gps, patience for finding your way. 2/3 day weekend camping. hopefully last weekend of June. Truck trailer and spot support available. 700-800 km over a few days.

hey guys, first post in this thread. I'm north of Kingston, not far from the routes you describe.

I'm signing up for the Rally Connex RAP this year. This other route looks interesting too.

I'm also on a DRZ400, but I'm probably cautious and slow compared to some...but no place I'd rather be then out on an adventure ride!

I am going to be very envious of you guys this summer. I am on shift work and my days off are going to probably be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I believe my rides will be mostly solo. At least I have 3 days off and don't start work until 3 pm the fourth day.:evil I wonder how the wife will handle the fact that I am gone camping most of my days off. :ddog
    Oh well.
