OK!! I have a mc-camping compromise.:evil Carrying everything I need on the bike is probably not in the cards. I tried the small tent thing and it sucked trying to sleep on the ground.

So, I bought this truck tent and tried it last weekend over at Potts Mountain, and it was absolutely perfect. Karma too! I ran into another ADVrider doing the same thing (PatrickinVA), with the exact same year and model of bike. What a coincidence.:eek1

Anyway, this will allow me to extend my range a little to explore some new territory, sleep comfortably...and carry lots of creature comforts, i.e., food, beer, ice, lantern, wood, water, blankets, pillows, etc., etc....Ahhh yeah...roughin' it smoothly. I plan to do a lot of this. :clap

Good deal glad you enjoied the camping . Looks like a nice set-up, how long does it take to set the tent and is it easier to pitch than a ground tent?
Now you have one less reason to miss the next ADV event.
It is birthday season for me (kids all happened about the same time of year) once that is over I will catch you for a ride.

    Great! Looking fwd to it.

The tent probably takes a little longer to set up than a small ground tent, but I don't have to crawl around on my knees and I don't have to sleep on the ground. I took my time, reading the directions and all, the first time, so it took me over an hour. But now that I know how it all goes together, I think 20 minutes ought to be enough time to set it up.

I was really comfortable, and slept very well. Also, it withstood a lot of rain last Saturday night. I was completely dry, so that gives me a lot of confidence in it also. Let's ride asap!:ricky

If you head north I might be able to sneak out after lunch on Saturday ride a little and camp ride a little then head to the RTE.

    What is "the RTE"?:hmmmmm

I haven't decided exactly where I'm going yet, but all of my potential choices are "north" of Moneta. :rofl

I would really like to explore that Reddish Knob area and I noticed the Richmond guys use a campground called, uh...I think... "North River Campground"? So...I am looking in that direction, but I'm open for suggestion.

Is that too far north for ya? Or, maybe you could give me some other ideas.

I loved my campsite over at The Pines..(near New Castle).

I might be heading here (Sugar Grove, WV) at the invite of B.E.Coyote:

Otherwise, probably somewhere over there west of Staunton.

If I don't see ya, say hi to Denis for me. I enjoyed every bit of his trip thread.

    Is that Seneca Rocks again?

The iffy weather played with my head, and it looked like it would be worse over there near Reddish Knob where I wanted to go. So I ended up just day-camping at Oronoco campground and riding around up Amherst and Nelson counties. I did ride Fri., Sat., and Sun., well over 100 miles each day.

I rode all over Wiggins Springs area and Alhambra, etc. For all the Richmond Chatter of those guys being up here, I never saw any other bikes or even any other bike tracks besides my own. I intentionally tear it up so that my fresh tracks can be easily seen if another bike comes along later.:D

I rode down Shoe Creek on the KLR until I thought it unwise to go on alone. :muutt I then turned that pig around and climbed back out of there.

I don't want to chance taking a spill back in there without someone along to ...

...get it on film, :lol3 ...and re-set my bones.:eek1

Yep again, even the bad roads are good in that area
My guess is turning around was a good idea I do not get out of my comfort zone when I ride by myself either. One mishap can make an otherwise great day a disaster.

I don't think this thread has very many subscribers. Too bad. It would be great if it was used to notify other riders. I notice that the "Richmond Chatter" thread is really good about that, and those guys ride up here in Amherst and Nelson Counties a lot.

I ride just about every weekend, and I'm off every other Friday. So, I'm out there and usually just riding locally in the national forests.

I will be off the entire first week of Sept., so I will be out and about for sure.

I always have my Droid with me, so a quick contact of any kind if you're out there and I can send you an "I am here" map. :nod

Family and work take up most of my time. I would have time to go for a ride on Sept. 14 or 15 though!
