And I'd be willing to wager that if he continues to love the stages, he stands a good chance of moving up the leader board a little.....

    He will through attrition, anyways.

He just has to keep to the plan, and he'll win. :ricky

How does it feel to start amongst your heroes in the first 10 on a stage in the Dakar? Pretty magical. Lyndon started 9th from the line in today's stage, ahead of such stalwarts as Cyril Despres, Helder Rogrigues, and Chaleco Lopez. Knowing full well that they would catch him on track, he rode his own ride, and was treated to a show out along the way. Kid in a candy store? You bet! It's a whole different world at the front end of the field. Grab a beer, and enjoy the tale!

    Public Radio fundraising notice:

Last year, through the generosity of the listeners, we were able to cover the cost of Neduro's phone bill for the communication costs to RallyRAIDio and ADVRider throughout the Dakar. :bow If you've enjoyed Lyndon's call ins and interviews on this edition, consider chipping in a few $$, € €, or ££ toward the cause. Many hands make light work, and based on our experience with Ned last year, the tab will run handily into 4-digit territory (sans decimals). It would be wonderful if we could take this burden off of Lyndon's shoulders.

To be clear, Lyndon has not asked for this, and there is no expectation on my part or his that any part of the phone bills be defrayed (indeed, I suspect that he will not know that I've solicited donations until after the event is over). For those so inclined,

RallyRAIDio @ g mail . com is the RallyRAIDio email addy to which funds can be sent.

    Thanks for your support.

    What a great call!

As ever, Pyn impresses with clear thinking and speaking... not a lot of umms and awws there, his brain is clearly still firing on all cylinders.

100% agree Ned - every call he is so composed and obviously thinking clearly. I've no doubt that he is having the time of his life and today especially was an opportunity to push it perhaps too far by wanting to test yourself against the big guys.....but Lyndon is just sooooooo cool about it all. Just living in the moment, taking it all in for what it is and just letting things happen by riding his own race.

It's really, really impressive to watch.

Lyndon, hands down you are the story of Dakar this year. Classy performance all the way.

    Thanks, Dox!

I can't imagine telling such a composed tale as Lyndon does, let alone in the midst of the experience he's having. Fantastic!

Thanks for letting us Inside the Helmet, Lyndon. :bow

Another great call. I have to tell you, I look forward to these every day. I have enjoyed Pyndon's posts for a long time, and really enjoy hearing him talk about his ups and downs in the dakar.

The Dakar pics are really really nice, but we need one that beats this one!

Please can someone explain the difference in colour of the way points, why are the early ones red then they change to buff colour? I have asked around and nobody can tell me.

I think that's when they 'open', which means that riders have reached that wp according to the iritrack.
