Saturday, March 17, 2012, conditions permitting. Around here, the middle of March can produce anything from snow to thunderstorms, 70+/sunny to tornadoes. Let's not forget flooding. :huh I guess most of us are beginning to feel the effects of cabin fever. In the interest of preserving my sanity and yours, I thought it would be fun to pick a somewhat arbitrary date far a day trip in the Madison area and see if anyone's interested. This is partially inspired by the KY Icebreaker thread: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=751582 While that ride is an overnighter geared toward the bigger bikes, I'm looking at a one day ride geared toward the smaller ones. I'm planning to be on the DR-Z400, but have ridden this area on a 950A and got along just fine. Initially, let's plan on the usual meeting at WalMart and heading out around 10:00am, finishing the afternoon eating wherever gets the most recommendations. In searching back through all the NOAA and NWS records I could locate, there seems to be a significant warming trend that peaks statistically around the 15th of March. Nothing balmy, but usually quite a bit above freezing. By then, I suspect we'll be ready for a ride regardless of the temps! At any rate, I'm sure the slab bridges iced-over would be not one whit slicker than when covered with that snot-slick moss in mid-summer. Who's interested? Please feel free to add any photos or videos you may have of the Madison area to this thread.
