Auto used to be in the airforce you know... he was a wingman/tailgunner.

You thought he had your "six"... when in fact he was "shooting you in the back..." :rofl

Never mow another man's grass... unless invited. And even then, you should not do a good job of it...

    ...if he's watching... :lol3

It all starts out innocent enough... As a friendly cyber-space invitation to check out some horn 2-stroke mx bike...

... and ends up with you in tears over a schooner, at some grotty suburban Melbourne pub telling the sordid story to you mates of how your wife took off with one of your ex-riding buddies and a 700cc vibrator... :rofl

There was a custom factory bike that raced the blackwater 100 race around 1980 that was in the 700CC range. If I remember correctly they used a Porsche piston of some sort for it.

Had a horrible faint memory of as a kid reading about a Maico Isdt (?) 700and something cc two-smoker, which I think only had 3 or 4 gears and drank fuel like a bastard. Sure 1 of the american bike mags got a ride on it, didn't rev too far but massive torque, finally found a pic.

    Found some specs as well.....

    Unreal looking bike....
great if you want to ride on private property or an open track.

I love the big 2-bangers, for the fear factor more than anything:clap

I had a Honda CR500 a few years back.... scariest bike I've ever ridden, on the MX track never had to get out of 2nd, awesome on the sand/mud flats.

but riding single track, was more suited to a 250cc machine.

Good find, looks like only 3 ever made to trial for the 6 day way back then. Interesting comparisons to modern day machines, 5 speed box, 43hp about the same as a new 450f, but at 4000 rpm:evil 238 lb's dry weight 108kg is probably a touch lighter than a newie, the suspension..... well in 79 it was a plush ride

Gotta luv the 2 bangers, No cam chain or valve adjustments or expensive repair bills, shit you can rebuild the motor with a 6 pack and a spare 2 hrs in an afternoon... as for scarey, go ride the ktm 300 exc 2 banger amazing with the adjustable on the fly mapping you can ride it like you stole it or it can be as tame as an old kl 250 ... I was amazed at the torque and low down grunt.. nothing like the old 2 bangers i used to own...

Actually, it was the KTM495 that attained nearly 124 MPH, as tested by DBM back in '81.
The record has only just been broken (IOW the record was held by the KTM for 28 years :eek1 ) by a KX500.

    Check these out:
    www.seven4racing.com/library__ktm__495__1981.htm
    twostrokemotocross.com/2009/06/worlds-fastest-mx-bike-kawasaki-kx500

One of these (KTM's) came up for sale about two years ago - a mate of mine encouraged me to buy it, sight unseen, to either ride or restore.

It was in a pretty sad state when I got it home, but after a complete tear-down and refurbishment, is now ready for reassembly in time for Classic Dirt 7 at Conondale on the Queen's birthday long weekend.

I won't, however, be attempting to emulate the article above, later this year :evil .

    Cheers

Had a ride on a mates Husky WR360 on the week end....and more power would not be a bad thing
don't know what the big deal about vibrations is my DR650 had more vib's the only thing is hanging on on rougher tracks than the DR could handle(at the same speeds :rofl ) will make your hands hurt....not the vib's tho

I sold the DR to get back on two stroke's....now just to find a CR500e or KTM540/550 for a price that wont kill me:deal

Dirt bike nagazine did a test on the 760 Maico back in 1981. Rick Sieman (editor) rode it in the blackwater 100.
It wouldn't make a 20 mile loop on a tank of gas. That would mean it got LESS than 10 mpg.
It had 26 horsepower at 1200 rpms ! It only revved to about 4000 rpms

Know nothing bout the 700, but the old 501 had some grunt.
