Hi folks. I been lurking and following the development of this route. I grew up near Wynnewood, Ok. Been looking for a chance to get back home and ride this route.

I do have a suggestion in the Wynnewood area. The current route does go through some nice scenic areas through the Arbuckle Mountains area south of Davis. But I am pretty sure most of that is pavement. Very nice pavement, yes.

I have mapped out a route that I think would keep you mostly on gravel through that section though, attached. From Wynnewood to the east, I know this section winds through a nice hilly section that is mainly gravel. The very southern part that links back up with the current route that is labeled as a ranch road, I am not sure of. Don't think I ever been down that road.

I think this route might be worth checking out.

Also, if I were to ride the section near Talimena, I would definitely ride the Kiamichi Trail (Ktrail). It is not big bike friendly though. I have ridden it from Indian Highway toward the east on a KLR (with no luggage) and made if fine. But the roughest section is between Indian Highway and Clayton. I understand it is easier to ride going east to west (rather than from Clayton east) since the really rough sections are down hill. Since I am on a WR259R now, I would certainly do Ktrail if I were to ride the OAT. But I might take a day off to ride it without carrying luggage.

Just my 2 cents worth of input.

This is a great effort! Thanks so much for taking the time to put this route together.

i'll check out the section you posted up when i get a chance. The k trail was originally put on the OAT, but was later removed because of gates. Access to the trail has been getting more and more limited with hunting areas. Also I have been trying to keep the trail as "big bike friendly" as possible. I think that if we could find a way through that area to include the k trail i would like to add it to the map, but have a big bike go around. That way people would have a choice on the route and more would be included.

Thanks OKLr. If I get back home any time soon, I will also check out that section I suggested.

Last I heard, you have to use the Clayton Trail to access the Ktrail on the west end. But it has been 3 years since I been up there. So it could have changed by now. Sure would be nice to know if there is still some sort of access on that west end.

As far as the route goes... You should be able to carry all your gear to make the whole trip... this would be along the lines of the Trans American Trail or the Continental Divide Route. etc.... big bike friendly is subjective...

We plan on scouting as much this spring and summer as we can... we need everyone's help... especially locals... as OKLR stated, this is a living road open to growth...

I have routed the route in a DeLorme map... as well as OK state map... i'll bring them with me... we will most likely talk about the trip some...

Looks like we may have 5 or 6 going so far... i'd like to see even more...

Saturday, me and Matt rode from Perry towards Frog rock!
Didn't make the rock, but a great ride, nonetheless!!
Sunday we rode from Perry to Salt Plains section
    !!
Another great ride!! Even made it across a bridge that required a go around on my last trip!
Not many pictures, but hopefully I'll get them posted soon!!

Well, we almost crossed paths. Saturday, Cropear and I caught the OAT west of Perry and followed it up to Salt Plains. Sunday we followed it south and west into SW Oklahoma.
On the way to Salt Plains we ran into two roads that were closed due to bridges out or deteriorated. One we crossed, one we routed around. I think I know which bridge you're talking about, but I promise to post some pics so we can compare notes.

I'll do a more detailed report in a day or two hopefully.

Good to see folks getting out on the OAT.

I'll bet those were our tracks; we were on Michelin T63s & Conti TKC 80s.

We got on the OAT north of Garber, where it intersects Hwy 74/15. The first closed bridge we came across was a 1 1/2 miles west of there, right before the intersection of CR N3020 & E0340/Great Lakes Rd. Coordinates are N36 31 14 & W 97 36 54.

We added an additional log across the big gap, but other than that crossed with minimal effort and a little sweat. We were both on 650s.

The second dead end/closed bridge was just SE of Jefferson, at the intersection of CR N2940 & E0210/Garvin Rd. Coordinates are N 36 42 33 & W 97 46 05. There is a big new SandRidge gas well here.
This was heavily grown up and had a hot wire fence across the "road"/trail, so I didn't investigate any further and we rerouted to the North.
Sorry, we didn't get any pics of this one, but it didn't and doesn't look very ridable.

Any of this look or sound familiar?

I'm new at this so bear with me. Hopefully there's a GPX file attached. I created it in Basecamp.

It should show our route that as far as it concerns the OAT. I've marked as waypoints:
    -Location of the closed roads/bridges
-Location of the ranch that we don't need to be riding through. It was a good ride through there and a public road, but the landowner made it clear he'd rather not see hordes of riders coming through.
-Easy possible re-route of the OAT to avoid the ranch (track in dark grey)

I will note that the "road" that is currently on the OAT route through this ranch is non-existent now. It must have been there at one time, but the only road now is the one we used. That's why there's a discrepancy between our route and the current OAT route.

Also, the road from around Herring/Washita River to the suggested re-route is currently very thick gravel and absolutely no fun to ride. I don't know if we hit it at the wrong time or not, but I thought it was worth noting.

Interesting... Basecamp shows the road going through but looking at google maps it very much does not go through...

I would suggest instead of going north and through Jefferson, heading one mile south to E0220 Road then west a mile and then back north to connect with the original road... this way you get to ride by Rock Island Park...
