Just got all caught up on this new adventure, looks like you & sis are knee deep in the hoopla, speaking of knees I'm pleased to see that Giant Loop has given you tank bags large enough for extra knicker knee wrap storage although I doubt it will get cold enough in tropical Madagascar for knee wraps:rofl
Jeeze its only been almost 2 yrs since overland expo 2012 but seems like yesterday since we were there & you've covered a lot of ground since then. No moss growing on you is there? Love the report so far & the pictures are fantastic as usual, keep the great narrative & pic's coming & most of all be safe & stay well. Subscribed as usual

    Hi Jeff
great to hear from you and you're enjoying the RR. I'd forgotten about the knee warmers! I definitely don't need them over here, it's very hot although when it rains the temperature drops a lot.

    cheers

    Loving the chameleons

I found these little girls with one on a stick

they were appalled when I touched it

but still managed a smile when I pointed the camera at them

Sunset was beckoning and so, turning my back on the beach I headed to the Avenue des Baobabs, one of the most famed sights in Madagascar.

Fresh back from my jaunt along the Baobab Avenue, we splash out on a meal in town- yep, the Loud Librarian is getting to grips with travelling Tiffany style, when street food rules the way every time. This was a great spot and we ate here a couple of times.
Here’s a close up of the fish that she paid 15 pence for!
Then watched a stand-off between a gecko and a cockroach, no prizes for guessing which one I was cheering on.
The gecko had a go then ran away, to our shock the cockroach then FLEW away.
    Cocktails to finish with
    [IMG]
    and another great sunset
    [IMG]
Goodbye to the beach as we head east, for a dash across the country from Morondava to Brickaville.
The usual seaworthy vessels battling the waves - makes some of the boats we take Suzi in look good
    [IMG]

Then a quick stop at this shop to get a new mirror - we'd lost our one in one of the sand falls
    [IMG]

Almost forgot, we’d bumped into a familiar face- it was Kim the Korean with his bike, and as promised here’s a picture of it for those of you keen on motorbikes. He’s managed to ride the same sandy tracks as us on this bike so he’s doing well.
some random pictures from the road the evening before
    [IMG]

as you can see the other traffic is mainly zebu carts

    A final Baobab scene

Reflected in my extremely cool Ugly Fish sunglasses.
Scenes from a ride across country from more street food...

I'd initially convinced her there really was a baby crocodile in this bread!
Roadside stalls selling unusual items, and yes, I was tempted to get a life size Virgin Mary to go on the back of the bike
    [IMG]
Buying petrol which is measured out of soft drinks bottles
    [IMG]
    A brush with the Law
    [IMG]
We'd travelled from the dry desert landscapes of the west tot he lush jungle surroundings in the east
    [IMG]

A puncture slows us down but our new friend Antonio soon has it in hand and gets us back on the road
    [IMG]

The Librarian contemplates how many bananas she can fit in her luggage
    [IMG]
    while his Mum dispenses tea,
    [IMG]
corrects my Mandarin to sound like her Cantonese and pets her chicken
Big thanks to Antonio for helping us that day
    [IMG]
    We passed some cyclists
    [IMG]
    – a lot of them, obviously on some sort of tour and we were shouting “Bonne Chance” (Good luck in French)
until we noticed they had English words on their t-shorts and we slowed to chat to one of them- they’re British cyclists on a charity ride across Madagascar.
We then went into full-on Tour de France mode, and were shouting out “Well done the Brits and Good Luck”
It was worth it to see the looks of surprise on their faces when they heard our accents.
We'd reached the Indian Ocean- the Librarian's first glimpse of it and no, I have no idea why she isn't smiling!
Tamatave – a town that always seems to be chaotic
    [IMG]

    Washing up – child labour

And we met these Spanish cyclists who were about to head north on Route National 5 –
    [IMG]

we wished them luck, it’s definitely not a road I would want to attempt with a bicycle, it was bad enough all that sand with an engine attached to my two wheels!

We’re going in the opposite direction – to a tropical island, Ile aux Nattes just off the coast of the larger island Sainte Marie (as I know some of you like to know where we are).

Not so many bike pictures, but wow, what a great time we had, it is THE perfect island with no traffic and no hustle and bustle.
    Lemurs,

    dogs,

palm trees, beaches, fresh fruit and veg delivery to our beach bungalow and final night cocktails and a posh meal.
Sunset and time for a cocktail IN the sea
    [IMG]

we had a few tries at standing on the tree, the first time we had some help
    [IMG]
but it looks more like a fight
    [IMG]
    The Librarian went out snorkelling
    [IMG]
No she did NOT catch those fish herself
    [IMG]
more animals than people on the beach
    [IMG]
Cyclones are a regular occurrence, and we even spotted a Shelter Box tent - still being used after the last time a major one hit.
strange to think that this tent has come all the way from a small town near my house - Shelter Box is a Cornish charity that has gone global
    www.shelterbox.org
take a look to see what they do - a simple yet extremely effective idea.

the kids did a demo for me
    [IMG]
when I jumped, the photo came out looking very strange
    [IMG]

this was as brave as I got with the tree
    [IMG]

as you can see, the Librarian is a lot braver than me when it comes to heights

The kids showed us a new game
    [IMG]

no one on the beach except us and Milo the dog
    [IMG]

We heard howling in the woods and went to investigate - it was lemurs
    [IMG]

this one was quite good at showing off
    [IMG]

    this JUST missed me

    Genuine lemur poo.

    Tortoises as well

    Giant spiders

look closely and you can see the lemur leaping form one roof to another

no vehicles on the island so the only traffic jam is caused by the geese, though why they were using the bridge when they can swim, I really don't know

    Hi Tiffany,

Lots of details you picked in your report that now look familiar to me. Love to read your report, reminds me how good it was to be in Madagascar :clap

    Take care

    Hey Tiff!!!

Just got caught up on the latest adventure and I must say...JEALOUS!
Robin and the zoo all say Hi!
She keeps mentioning getting a job where she can travel internationally but gets a bit non-committal when I suggest that we could always take up global adventure riding like you. :evil

Anyway, beautiful report so far and looking forward to more.
You always have a place when you are in the states.

Thanks for that Ryan. It's been great to follow Robin's bike progress, you must be proud of her. So yes, the next step is go off on your travels with your bikes, and of course a couple of sidecars for the furry mob!

I'm having a bit of a problem, and no it's not bike stuff.

It's computer stuff, I can't seem to access Internet Explorer any more, I'm getting the following message

    The Proxy Server isn't responding

then when I try and sort it out

"An unexpected error has occurred and the troubleshooting wizard can't continue!
I know many of you will be chuckling and saying "she's so old school, what is she doing using IE anyway"
well, I'm not great at IT stuff and it works for me- well usually it does.

so instead I can use FireFox - yep, I'm advanced enough to use that, BUT I can't use SmugMug on FireFox- I don't know why/how, never have been able to use it with FF.
and my photos are on SmugMug, thus NO MORE updates until I get something sorted, either

    Internet Explorer working again
    Or
Being able to use SmugMug while on Fire Fox.

hopefully that sounds like more of a plea for help than a threat:confused

    cheers

If you didn't know you were using a proxy server under IE then I would be worried that I had picked some malware that had fiddled with my Internet Explorer config to redirect all traffic via a proxy, intercepting my web traffic for nefarious purposes... Do you have up to date AV running?

    That's my first thought also.

Tiffany, you might just have the proxy option enabled for no reason. Go into Internet Options and click the "Connections" tab and then click "LAN Settings" down at the bottom. In the window that pops up, see if Proxy Server is enabled (check box right below it) and if so, uncheck it. Small chance that this might fix it.

Make sure your Anitvirus is active and current.

I'm getting a bad feeling about this Ken
something like a sinking sensation in my stomach, like when my feet are flat on the ground whilst sat on a bike and I know that it's either:
    a) a flat tyre
    b) completely busted suspension
    c) something even worse which I have yet to experience:eek1

    So Sandalscout (?)
I am attempting your suggestion- thank you for responding by the way
and as for up to date anti-virus stuff, I sort of tag onto the ex-boyfriend's anti-virus stuff (yes we are still good friends and no, he has NOT read the first post on this thread!)
and I know you, and all the other IT geeky type people are going to roll your eyes and say
    "Ho hum, bloody Norton again!!"
because yes, that is what I (he) uses...
and pretty sure it's up to date as I sorted it out before coming away-
    how do I check?
sorry I am being a bit thick about this

I haven't used Norton in a really, really long time (nothing against, just not what I use), but you should be able to verify that it is working and up to date via an icon in the task bar (bottom right of the screen, next to the clock. Expand the task bar, and hover over each icon until you find the one for Norton. Double click it to open the software, and it will probably say right on the main screen if it is active, and if it is or is not up to date.

I can't help more than that, maybe someone more familiar with Norton can.

Hope that helps a little bit.
