Doh! I completely misread that question!

I prefer NATO cans. The cap on them seals much better. US Spec cans have a different mouth that can be more troublesome. YOu need to make sure ou have good gaskets and a way to close/open them (a Leatherman Wave works well as a tool).

They use different spouts. NATO cans are easier to pour cleanly straight from the can into a funnel.

Capacity is about the same. US Spec is 5 gallons while NATO is 20 liters (5.2 gallons).

THAT was funny!! So may I request the Nato flavor fuel cans? Thanks! :clap
We'll know how many as we get closer to the event.

    Thank You Sir!

Cool. I'll make sure they're ready.

I just checked. I've got four good NATO cans ready. I'm pretty sure I also have a fifth as well, I'll have to try to find it between now and then (I really should clean the garage anyway).

BTW - I almost never use my radios at home but I can hit the 147.330 Big Bear and 146.385 Keller peak repeaters easily.

doug, thanks for the info. i will surely need help and possibly pick up a ht for long term use. just too busy to research at the moment.

i googled if there's a repeater in the dv area, there are a few outside the park. pablo and traveltoad will surely know if they are reachable from panamint springs.

    Hey Joel-

I've tried a million times- NO repeater reception from PSR on 144, 220, 440 bands...
BUT- we are trying to find the HAM operators that put a portable repeater up 1 or 2 years ago.
IF we can find them & place the repeater on top of Hunter. we might have reception from PSR to Hot Springs & maybe even the Race Track area...:D

T H A T is testament to to the usefulness of HAM radios!!! I've had similar experiences w/ my HT's.

One of these years, I'll be able to purchase my own portable units & cover all of DV on Ht's Bwahahahaha!:thumb:thumb:super

Joel, I will do some research. My important points are dual band +, power a headset in the helmet, PTT on the bike so that it is easy to talk and ride. Lastly try to find one that can be powered from the bike while riding.

I MUCH prefer not to have a radio made in China. I am looking at Yaesu, Icom, Kenwood etc. I was hoping to find one that did GMRS too, but there seems to be two manufacturers of that radio and both are Chinese. Deal breaker for me.

I had Kenwoods when I did SAR and they were capable radios but big/heavy. My thought is that the radio would ride in the tank bag. PM with what your upper $ limit is and I'll send you a list.

    Ladies and gentlemen,

I have assigned everyone a camp spot. Please check your # from the first page of this thread (post #4) on the map. If you have anything to say, say it now or keep your silence until March 31st.
Only ones I didn't assign numbers are the ones that are coming for one day only. They can just camp where ever they find a spot for their tents. :D
We have only spot #73 wide open. All other spots have at least 2 riders. Some has 3 or more.
Also I couldn't find enough info for the following participants. Please let me know your details.
    Thanks.

    Hi Pablo:

I will be doing the Steel Pass loop again on Friday. There will be 12 riders. Can you carry gas for us? I have a couple 5 gallon plastic cans we could use, or we can buy it from you at the Springs. Let me know your preference if you are going to be at the Springs on Friday.

BTW, I was camped next to you Thursday night last year. Blue and yellow Husky.

    Hello Jarthur,

Yes- I remember your sweet Husky! I think we shared beers that night(Sierra Nevadas?)

I can sell you the gas- How much will you be needing & what octane?
I have a group coming thru on Sat. requiring 12 gallons of 91 Octane(big European bikes)
I''ll charge what the Shell station charges @ PSR plus 1$ per gallon, minimum purchase is a Jerry can(6 gallons). If your group is 12 riders, Then I can sell you 2 Jerry cans, then each bike can take a gallon. If you need more, I will bring more gas.
    Does that make sense?

    cheers,

    Pablo

    howdy,

myself (jesse) and hypnosavant (chad) are numbers 164&165 on the IN list.

    We're labeled as...

    164. Hypnosavant (Chad) - TR3 (TC1) - D3
    165. GoodCat8 (Jesse) - TR3 (TC1) - D3

I think we should be MC3 and we have no camp spot designation. We signed up for the tent cabin thing'a'ma'jig.

Chances are very high I'm just reading it wrong, shoot me a PM if Im just reading this retarded and should just shut up :freaky

Oh and we're both on DL650's
