Maryland/NVA KTM shop?

    Hello Marylanders! :wave

    I just moved to DC and I'm looking for some recommendations on a suspension shop. I'm putting one of the WP4860 forks from a KTM on my airhead BMW and I'm going to need some help with the valving. Anybody know a shop that might be willing to help with a project like that?

    Also if you've got any trail recommendations I'll take those too!

    Don't promise yourself just yet--this isn't going to be a cut & dry project. :D

    I've got custom triples that have the huge 38mm offset used on the airheads. It has a Scott's stabilizer and a post for the frame. I'll be getting some forks off eBay unless you guys have some lying around. I've got a new wheel with the later 26mm axle and it's got a rotor on it. I still need a caliper and a master cylinder/lever.

    Do you have a source for custom springs? I'll be shortening the forks down to the stock 8" for the my G/S. I've only got a vague idea of the stiffness that I'll need and I don't have a way to test sag until I pop them in and try it. I'm hoping to avoid the 'buy it and try it' approach at $150+ a shot.

    I know I want the open chamber forks and from I've gathered they're still on the EXC/XC-W models. Is that right?

    I read that in '09 there were some fork improvements to the MXMA PAs. Was it on all EXC/XC-W models? Is it worthwhile to wait around until some '09+ forks pop up?

    they reduced the dampening rod dia on the 07/08's then changed the mid valve dia on later 09.
    If you can find a clean set of 09 or newer they are a better fork
    but that being said we've had good success setting up the open chambers from 03 and up, so if the price is right and they are clean go for it.

    not a problem to lower and we do have a source that can custom make springs if need be.
    when you get closer to getting your project ready, we would be happy to help, I have a spring generator that should be able to handle your bike,

    lots and lots of factors to consider when your doing a project like your planning

    That's an understatement. I've got an 11.5 gallon tank so there's a huge swing in weight from full to empty. Add to that weight changes from having a touring load+firewood to dropping the boxes entirely for offroading.

    I thought I'd peg the sag for somewhere in the middle and adjust damping. Having on-the-fly adjustment is going to be huge.
