Following on from somewhat "JD & C" created animated discussions at the last "Avoca" meeting of the "southern chapter" of SA Adv Riders, (actually they were the only ones to turn up), rumours about a fabulous sparkling "Champagne Beer" required confirmation & an invitation for a tasting was offered...........H1 being the only "guinea pig" brave enough to accept.

"Let's get our heads together and make it happen"

"With a smirk like that, I hope he keeps that hand to himself. He's obviously been riding around Australia by himself way too long!"

No!...... not those heads!............. Heads like this ! :photog

When he said "come around for a tasting", I didn't realise he meant "around the whole bloody Fleurieu Peninsula"

As we headed out of the city limits at 8am, we both had fleeting thoughts of our past lives, locked in a cubicle waiting for 5pm Friday to start having fun :baldy

It was beginning to feel like one of those mornings where the road was becoming just soo inviting that we will have to test the ol' rigs out somewhere soon :evil

We eased into the hard work ahead of us as we dropped into the beautifully tranquil Sturt Valley & Aldgate Valley Roads

Before opening up to more fast & flowing country roads where our trusty steeds were given their heads :wings

Do you think we should rest for awhile to let the brakes cool

While we are here, we should adjust tyre pressures now so we can attack the infamous "Razerback Ridge Road"

Whoa! ................. that was fun! :super

Next was the attack on Mount Wilson :gdog

Damn!.............. that TDM is fast :eek1

The view from Mount Terrible was fabulous :huh

"Hey! MB this is how it's done"

Then onto the fabulous undulations of Moon Hill

Mmmmm?.... I wonder if I can get my hands on the 950 for a while to see if it will match up to my TDM?

    "Why sure.....................help yourself"

"Damn!..... there goes the excuse that it's my body armour that fills out my jacket".......................................fffff..ing bakeries again

"This is far too much fun for a Friday job!"

    "You're not wrong there H1"

"Get back on your trusty steed & show me the beer"

Not long before we hit the big smoke again

Beware of the brewery security guard dogs though

Poor bugger, didn't stand a chance!................that burglar must have thought those dogs were friendly

If the dogs don't get you..................... the mine field will

Finally after tenuous negotiations with the guards (ie give 'em a fresh bone), we were able to start the tasting process

    Wow!........................what a brew? :wings

    It's just so good H1, isn't it?

    You're not wrong there MB

We were also fortunate to have "Rinnie" (aka 2up Adv riding report) showing us fresh jugs at every glance

The beer certainly worked faster than 10 minutes

Finally our taste buds were sated

It was a tough day, but someone had to do it
    :rilla

    Cheers
    :beer

Oh and I thought the tyre on the back of my Kato was rooted, that is, until I saw the rear on the TDM :eek1:D

    Two things:

    1) This time of year, I hate all Australians. :evil

    2) I think that era TDM is one of the best looking bikes of all time.:clap

    Kym,

thanks again for planning such an awesome route along all those ridgetops down South and back. Some of these roads I'd never travelled before, so thanks for showing them to me.

The Champagne Beer exceeded all expectations as well :1drink and was well worth the wait ... the very long wait ... the all day wait ... :knary :dutch

Nice Report MB! You always deliver with the pics and some humourous words.

Gotta admit though that once I'd arrived home and had dinner I was 'sawing logs' :snore :bore in no time. Not sure if it was the 350kms or so of riding or the soothing qualities of the Champagne Beer that caused these symptoms :scratch :loaded

Great Day thanks Mate! Looking forward to the next one! :ricky

Very suspicious that! He obviously loves that TDM so much I'm sure one of the photo's had him kneeling down and proposing to it, or was it a case of "while you're down there".
That tyre is getting worse Kym, I'd suggest that the best $100 you could spend in the next few months will be to spruce up that rubber before the Flinders Ranges 2008 Escapade - trust me, you'll need it.
Oh, and nice pics, but next time could you just throw some dirt over the bike before the camera comes out so as to try and make it look like a genuine Adventure Bike story.
And how's Riteris? There he is throwing snowballs at everyone this time of year and we're just throwing the ice around that comes off our freezing cold drinks - Hey Ritris, it's not all beer and skittles down here you know!!!!!:freaky :jkam
Also Kym, I was led to believe that your name of MasterBrewer had something to do with your large colon, ah well - wrong again!

    cheers

They don't get many cheers from the inmates in that thread Kym!
Anyway, it's not the tyres that get you through the Public Access Routes around the Flinders, it's that bloody right hand. Kipo, The Doc and Stewie got around there fairly bloody quickly on their bikes last April and they were running trail tyres from Dunlop or something similar - cheap as, and last them twice as long as the fancy knobs we had on.
PS, bring your camera up to Blinman and we'll organise a ride report to beat all ride reports - wait till they see Kipo on the red wine in the front bar at the Blinman Pub!! Doc, if you read this you have to come up - broken leg or not, it's going to be a blast - we'll tell your wife you're just cleaning the chains and air filters for everyone else. "I"m from the Government, I'm here to help you"

Sounds like a plan... if all goes well I should be over that way in late Feb early March.

Tomorrow I pick up my new WeeStrom. Over the next few weeks all the gear goes on and I'll do a few Victorian test rides.

Then if I can get the time off I'll be heading from Melbourne up to Newcastle, then down to Cowra, Griffith and over to Adelade through Mildura and the Barrossa Valley.

Great read,I was surprised that I actually recognized some of the roads you started out on. I was in Adelaide in 2006 staying with a friend,he lent me his Buell XB for a day ride and I headed out of town the same direction.Great riding area, reminded me on Napa Valley area in CA near where I live.
