A couple of roads I recommend when heading down the coast to N.P....
Hauturu rd, Pomarangi rd, The seal bit between Te Anga and Marakopa, Waitaanga rd, between Ohura and Kiwi rd..... Hell they're all good :clap some nice riding around there. I am just a little bit jealous.

    Gentlemen, that reminds me.
Have been having visiting Grandson things to do so I have only been skim reading. Steven your welcome anytime (even when you don't have Australians with you ;-) )
I will be joining you on the 16th so please ensure you are all dressed properly.
Mike, I clean forgot about the swing bridge! I was going to suggest that I meet you at the top of Otoraoa Rd. That gets a tunnel plus the McKee Oil Field as a bit of local interest. Then carry on out over Pohokura, Maybe a diversion to Matau Tunnel via Mangaoapa Rd Then back down Matau Rd onto the metal again.
I can fit in with time and whatever plan you have.
A few things I would recommend for viewing, Mt Damper Falls, Raekohua Falls and Tangarakau Township. Whangamomona Jailhouse, Waro Road magic water pipe, Ohura township, Morgans Grave, you know! all that tourist stuff we have hidden away down here. I can even find us some rail tunnels to walk through if your really keen. Don't worry trains wont be a problem :-) although I cant guarantee we will be safe from golf carts
Roto Rd from Ohura then onto the Kururau Rd then the Opotiki.
That should fill in a day :D:hmmmmm

Hi Jamie (MB and Kym2 also)

Kym x2 chime in if you disagree - Jamie, sounds grand - I'm only aware of the 4 of us doing this section - like you I plan to 'peel off' heading for home at this point - assume this includes the Motu?

If you're happy to make bookings that'd be great thanks

Clint - I plan to bring my tent sleeping bag etc and will try to get to see you if feasible

Another option leave home here, head out through New Plymouth taking in some touristy sites, Oakura and the beach, Okato and back through Pukeiti? The question is - where is the cafe stop? Meet you in Inglewood? Maybe play it by ear?

thanks Michael - I'm inclined to let you and Col agree this one between yourselves - without both your generous intervention I'd have been using Col and Phil's GPS Route for the Cape to Cape - looking forward to riding with you both again - new tyres on the GS today :)

You got it. At the end of Rendall Rd just carry on down Manawahe Rd to hwy 30. My place is only about 10km off your route. Could also carry on out Rotoehu Rd and Maniatutu Rd to Okere for refreshments and bbq supplies then loop back on hwy 30. Will pm address details.

Give it a crack, you might be surprised :1drink The hospitality and detailed route suggestions from Aussie ADV inmates when we did some touring in oz a few years back were great.

    Cheers
    Clint

Accommodation, airport pick ups, routes, guides... very NZ. But I have to say, swinging takes it to a whole new level.

Plus 1 on Aussie Trev - great facilitator - introduced me to some top blokes PBee, Captain Kaos and his friend all around a campfire with great tucker and wine up at Roberstown. Gave me 'track notes' for the Artimore Track (PAR) where I met Kipo and his pals doing a pre ride for the Apex Outback Postie Bike Challenge.

Kipo is in a whole another league of generosity - loaned me a Postie bike and had me stay at his home so I could complete the Postie Bike Challenge along with 86 other riders. On commencing out of Port Augusta I wondered what on earth I'd let myself in for. At the end of the 4 days I was stated - probably the highlight of my all too brief time in SA along with the PAR out of Blinman

DesertDog (aka Matty) - another top bloke at Port Lincoln.

On planning my retirement last year I'd posted a fairly general intentions to pick up a DR I'd purchased in Melbourne and head off for seven weeks. I received a number of helpful / generous suggestion. I chose SA because it fitted with my aspirations as a solo (and older) rider. I wasn't disappointed and have fond memories of time spent in the Lucky Country.

I musn't omit to mention XRMan of Portland - another top man who showed me great hospitality.

I'm with MB - there's a real opportunity for reciprocal friendship with these guys.

As to those Kiwi inmates who've responded so generously in various ways - thanks - to me that's what this adventure riding fraternity is all about
