Actually Stephen, that's what I always thought.
However back in 2008, coming down to the start line for our Oz trip after 18 months of preparation we jumped into the Oz forum to ask a few questions about local conditions. Bear in mind that in the event we did about 18,000 km, mostly off the pavement. We took about $1,000 worth of spare parts with us and never opened a single packet, so I figure that we must have got something right. However when we came to this forum for details, we were treated like total idiots by almost all the responders. The universal assumption was that we didn't have a clue what we were doing and weren't worth wasting time on.
I was astounded. Perhaps we didn't explain ourselves very well - I don't know. Maybe we only have ourselves to blame. In any case, our reception was crazy hostile.
What saved it was the people who contacted us outside the forum ( mostly PM's) and basically said to ignore the idiots and went on to give us the info we were after.
Having said that however, in the entire 2 month trip we met one Oz adv inmate and that was a kiwi living in Darwin.

No Kym, that is definitely not whats meant in this area of our country. Ask any locals in the Central north island if they can hook you up with a 'whaka blonde' and you will be sent to the first back paddock just south of Hemo gorge buddy!
But, should you wish to get wool around your eyes, whos goanna stop ya?

    Very true.
The point is that the mutual assistance process has been working really well in this thread (and long may it continue) but it doesn't always work this well.
Enjoy it while we can and move on.

Nothing like a good reason to make me get the GS going again! New (thanks Oscar) rocker cover, large hammer taken to the crash bars, a bit of primer and a glued together indicator and I'm ready!

Kym, I have sent you a message in case you don't notice.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make the mid week ride, the boss is buggering off skiing, leaving me working.
As I'm off to Aussie in a few weeks best I don't complain eh !

Bloody hell that Aussies quick on the keyboard, I've only just got home from dropping them off!

Hint for future hosts, locate a pub with a good selection of craft beers, these guys need to experience the range we have on offer.

Hi Wairau and all others thank you very much for the overwhelming support you have shown to our very good friends Kym and Kym 2. The rides I go on are pretty much what you suggested Simpson CSR York etc and yes quite happy to pick you up from the Airport and arrange everything, too easy as most of it is straight camping looking forward to having you over.:photog
