The plan. Ride by night to the Victorian High Country by the light of a full moon and our HID's..Camp and ride a big loop on Sat with a return on Sun.

Well some of the plan held –

I met up with Camo, Rob, Mudders and Juan at Warburton and left round 6.30PM with news from Don the other half leaving from the other side of town were running late. Weather forecast was not great for we had wanted a clear warm night for riding upto the Victorian High Country by the light of the full moon. Instead we got thick heavy mist which at points had visiabilty down to about 10meters..

    Camo, Rob, Mudders, Juan

Hard to get photos of fog......

Made it to Matlock by 8pm and waited for Don and crew

We waited .... and waited......and waited .. Then through the fog they came, Hattah, Brute, and Jardine.
With the Team Assembled, we then took off for the Mt Selma track and thru to Licola. ( we knew we had to get going as we needed fuel at Licola and 11pm was the curfew.)
But in the fog and dark the set off was not too successful with Tornillo taking the track down to Woodspoint instead. Some time later we got out group together in darkness and headed on.
We made Licola with 5mins to spare. Loaded up with fuel and grog we headed up for Kellys lane. We found out intended spot at the bridge but decided to give it another 10ks up Kellys lane to check on McMichael Hut. This was the best decision of the trip. We got in around midnight.

Boys settling in with the rain and wind hammering outside.

The rain (and snoring) did not stop all night.
In the morning, after some thoughts of abandonment we decided to stick with it and do a ride into the Wonnagatta valley.

So we saddled up and headed out about 11am in to the heavy rain and wind.

We headed up Kelly's lane, then on Mt Howitt road, upto Howitt Hut. The hut was totally washed out, with half a metre of water in the hut.

We walked down from the hut toward what was now a torrent in the valley from the hut.

From the hut we head down Zeka spur track. "pot holes and exposed rock" a plenty.
We wanted to get down into the valley but came to an impassable torrent mid way down.

We turned round and headed back a bit disappointed.

Did a walk down to Piper falls which were pumping

Any way after this, we headed back to the hut – checked out Kelly's hut on the way. Got back mid afternoon and relaxed in what was now a fine afternoon. We ate and drank and ultimately watched the full moon come up over the hill.

    Sunday the ride home

The creek crossing a short distance from the hut on kellys lane with a nice refreshing start.
    Insert video here

The depth was enough to give my bike some hassels a short time after.

    Some dewatering was required.

Then home via Licola, Mt Selma. Matlock and home.

Great trip. Thanks all who came. Next time, weather willing, we will get further into the Wonnagatta valley and around to Dargo. Stay tuned.....

    Dave awesome ride thanks.

I had few dramas getting home. Tried brocks rd-closed!!

Rode back to licola then onto jamo with a broken spoke and flat rear tyre in between. Rode into gates at 9.20pm. Knackered!! But the full moon on sat night was a day late. Oh well always next time.

I think the highlight was staying in the hut - it saved a lot of wet gear next day!! Snoring wasn't tooo bad... And the constant rain on the roof was relaxing.

I thnk I need to buy a f800 like juans. Such a cool bike. Only thing is I couldn't ride it as smooth as he does. The 690s also look awesome.

My xr meanwhile is a pig that needs to be retired I think.

Great ride Dave with an A list group of riders . It was wet but not cold . The hut was a winner , enjoyed the night ride despite the fog . Had a hoot down a great track when a few of us took the wrong turn . Total travel for me 678 km .

Looked a bit wet , Mt Buffalo at the bottom had 90 mm of rain on the Friday to Saturday arvo . That is possably why you get wet .
The snoring wood have been loud in the hut , we normaly get to sleep a long way apart with ear plugs in for a quiet night sleep ?????????:rofl
    Good pics and vid .

To the whole group, thanks for the ride - great to ride with a group that don't mind getting on the gas and having fun.

Was a bit impatient on Friday arvo and didn't wait long enough for Hattah and Brute and took the option of getting on the piss at the Dargo pub with some mates.
Had zero visibility going up the hill and was glad to get to the pub before it really flogged down.

After constant rain all night, was advised by the locals that it would be too wet to come over the hill to Licola, so opted for Freestone road after getting stuck on wet clay tracks. Rode up Marathon to the Pinnicles and to Billy goats and back to Arbuckle junction.

Drowned the bike half way along Kellys lane - too lazy to walk the fast flowing creek - didn't look too bad, but ended up over the seat! Paid the price of an hour de-watering

By chance, ran into Rob in Licola and got the heads-up where the group was camping - Thanks.

Enjoyed a great full moon around the fire with some quality people.

Sorry to the corner-persons for the wait when I fucked-up and lead Hattah, Mudders and Brute down Mt. Selma track to Maguires - but it was a blast - had an added degree of difficulty when the rear brake boiled!

Enjoyed the level of riding - thanks to Jardine for taking me through some of the slipperiest tracks you will ever find. Had some serious cross-up action at times - had a ball.

Clocked-up just under 900km for the weekend. The 606 and 908 have almost 10000km on them - might get another 1000 or so out of the 908 - just not in the Neerim mud!

    Cheers JAK

Awesome RR, would love to join in on a ride one day soon. Haven't gotten properly muddy in a while.
Is any of you planing a snow ride this year? I've never done before, and am pretty keen to give it a bash.
Question for Juan what Tyres are on your 800? They look sort of like tkc80's. Hopefully be on an 800 in a few weeks and will be wanting aggressive shoes for it.
