If you lived in Memphis before you left you know how it was and the city counsel, politicians, taxes, crime, etc have only gotten worse. In any suburb you can find home values at the same price/sq ft with half the city taxes and better resale value. do your research. only be in Memphis city limits if you HAVE to... I've only been here 36 years and worked in every area from the river to Collierville.
Opposed to some here, we enjoy living in midtown. We go downtown a lot to shows, we are home in 10 minutes of walking out of the Orpheum or fed ex forum. We have at least 10 good, non - chain restaurants within 1.5 miles of the house. The only time that we have to deal with the cluster fuck of suburbian shopping center parking and endless stoplights is when we go to target for the 36 count toilet paper bundles or on our yearly trip to the mall for Christmas presents.
Figure out what sort of neighborhood you want your kids to grow up in then look for a good school.
Amen to that. I am living in the suburbs after living in Mid-Town. I hate it and am looking to moving back to civilization. To each his own, but one suburb is as good as the other.

I agree with the benefits of midtown and those are great perks...but he said school system is priority and I just can't recommend the schools.
I want to come eat with yall soon. ill think of date and time and get back to you
Snowden is a great school, or so we've heard. We don't have kids, so I have no other input.
Okay so I went to Barber Motorsports Park and took some pictures. Here is a link to them on Flickr and a bunch more too. Feel free to leave comments

Thanks for the pics and the link! Looks like I missed a fun time.
Gotta get to one of these this year.
Midtown IS the only place to live in Mempho. I love it !
I'll be at Fox and Hound in Southaven for the World Cup game on Tuesday (until about 6), and I work on Thursday evening, but otherwise I'm available for dinner Monday or Tuesday, as far as the current schedule (which may change).
Anyone wanna come to Fox and Hound and root on USA against Belgium. I have a Belgian ADV rider in my contacts who we can ridicule unless we're losing.
After the game, I'm up for anywhere.
Anyone have an old gas grill they're looking to get rid of? (cough Todd cough) I've moved into a small efficiency in Southaven without an oven but with a nice deck. I promise a gas grill ADV dinner hosted at my house in the near future in exchange for a working gas grill.
I can meet up for a dinner tuesday, but not for game-time
The John Penton Story is a Go at the Cordova 16 on the 19th of July at 7pm!
normally I'd chide anyone for choosing gas over charcoal, but not in this case.
I know you don't want to spend the money, but I was shocked at how cheap Lowes has gas grills. I noticed them the other day when I had to go get a part to get my gas water heater back on. In my limited experience, it seems old (free) gas grills never burn correctly and aren't worth the trouble.
Thanks. I'll check out Lowes. I did look at Kroger and they had a nice small unit for $100, not including the fuel tank.
I prefer charcoal too, but I've cooked with both and in my current living situation, charcoal is just not very convenient.
IMO the cheap ones aren't much better.
we went to Hamilton's about 6 years ago, spent around $700 for a Weber and stainless steel grates. We use it at least once/week, year round and have never had one single problem with it lighting or burning unevenly.
I always wanted a Penton when I was a kid.
Got my grill. Pawn shop. $70 with an empty tank.
